You know, if you chop off the first 50 seconds of that song and then cut it off at the 2 50 mark its actually pretty good.

As a whole though it is garbage.

I was just talking with a friend about this. First Impressions was great. Angles was completely forgettable. But at least they still sounded like The Strokes while doing it.

That album for me is basically, skip, under cover of darkness, skip, skip, taken for a fool, then a bunch more skipping. Which is sad because I can listen to first impressions pretty much straight through without that ever crossing my mind.

The trailer looks so so but that first track is gorgeous. I will be seeing the movie on the strength of it alone, I like down tempo instrumental m83 the best.

In other news, new yeah yeah yeahs track.

I was underwhelmed by this album until I got the last track "wedding song", album went from a 5 to a 8.5 in one track.

Really digging buried alive as well. And it is making me rethink my "if its rap rock that doesn't involve public enemy it shouldn't exist" policy.

If I was phoenix I would hire them on as an opening act. Imagine all the people coming in half way through the opener thinking they already missed some of headliner.

Yes, they are rapidly becoming a favorite band. Eyelid movies felt a bit to long with a bit to much filler, but the ep after that was one of my favorite records of last year and this new one is also really really good.

I saw them (i use the word saw lightly as I was to far back to see much) at bonnaroo and all the tracks that felt kinda weak on album sounded much much better and I have a bit more appreciation for them (sixteen years gives me chills now). Pretty excited about a new tour and a smaller venue.

You have every right to be on a high. This is really really really good. I just saw this on your youtube "Our trailer was stolen in Portland, OR and we lost $25,000 worth of gear." This is really lovely but it seems you kids got back on track. Did you manage to recover any gear?

On a side note, I finally saw Phantogram in a smaller venue and the people in this thread that said they were amazing live were completely right. Probably one of my favorite shows ever.

The Decemberists are playing their first live show since 2011 at Boston Calling in May and I'm surprisingly excited about it.

I have always loved the Decemberists (by always I mean up to and including the crane wife) but I have never seen them outside of a festival setting. Also 2 out of the 3 times they were at bonnaroo they conflicted with Wilco, and Wilco always won, so if they make it to Toronto I will probably try to make it to that because they are one band I have listened to way to much to have never seen a full length proper set from.

The Angry Mariners Revenge will forever be my favorite song to obnoxiously sing along to at work.

Also, speaking of uncool bands that we unapologetically love, did anyone else listen to the new Tokyo Police Club album?

It was a let down for me, the best 8 and a half minutes of it are at the start and were released 3-4 months ago. (in there defense though its a drat good 8 1/2 minutes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MG6rKuCfyo

Having said that the rest of the album feels like they were toning down that childish stupidily happy sound that endeared me the first 2 full lengths.

Using the money to see Death Cab for the 6th time, I promised myself the last 3 times that I would never pay to see ben gibbard in any form what so ever. But then this new album is shaping up to be kinda awesome and the Antlers are opening so goodbye money I guess.

Its a bit of a shame that most of the rest of the album isn't as good as the first four previewed tracks, but overall I am really really liking it.

Death cab made a good album was a sentence I was starting to think I would never say again.

They are playing here with the Antlers so heres hoping the live show got good again.

I was pretty convinced that their farewell show would be, well, a farewell show that would last more than five years.

I was at bonnaroo when Trent Reznor implied it would be his last show ever for NIN. They did one more tour "broke up" then were back at it 4 years later.

I know tons of bands that split up then reunite in less time then it takes radiohead for a album + tour cycle.

When she opened for the Decemberists earlier this year you could hear a dang pin drop at Brooklyn Steel. It was unreal

This is completly unrelated to the topic but I wanted to get your attention.

You should go do the honors of starting your The National new album thread, I remember the last one was alive for about 2 years after the first one.

Not feeling it too much yet, but a track being a grower is par for the course for this band.

Its not bad by any stetch, but its probably not gonna stay on repeat for a day like "the system only dreams in total darkness" did.
