So the new Grimes video is um... well, I don't really want to say it because I mean look at my avatar, but... it's kind of a little bit terrible.

I loved all her other videos, but this one is just so dumb. Boucher said she wants to make a video for every track on the album, and I just hope when she gets to Be a Body she doesn't gently caress around.

Her first video is awful too, I loved the "night music" video though.

Craft Spells, did no one mention that they released an EP 'Gallery' about three months ago? I haven't seen any talk about it in this thread, but they're worth an extra reminder. Here's 'Still Left With Me' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07h_jB63L64.

For any of you into chillwave music check out Sunrom. A friend of mine showed me their song 'Le Sable' and I've been hooked (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXRr514m5fM)

That Craft Spells EP is decent, even more bedroom sounding. I also think the Wild Nothing album a decent amount but not nearly as much Gemini.

I will check out the Sunrom stuff cause I am a huge sucker for the Chillwave sound and will be said when it's imminent quick demise is complete.

I like the parts where she's just dancing and messing around but then all the parts with the chick with pink dreads and skin colored costume with fake metal bits make me want to not watch the video ever again.

I think her former love of Nu Metal is starting to take its place in her own image.

That video is balls, intentionally campy doesn't always mean it's ok to be campy.

That video is a perfect example.

I didn't think the new Grizzly Bear was very good after a couple of listens, but I think it needs time.

This has been a running theme for me this year though, a bunch of artist I've loved in the last half decade have put out new albums that seem completely underwhelming to me.

I must really be getting old.

The new Local Natives drops this week, and it's absolutely worth your time. My favorite release of the month.

Two solid singles in Breakers and Heavy Feet, some really pretty moments in Three Months and Mt. Washington, and a really strong second half as a whole. Top marks and all that.

I agree, it's not as catchy on the whole, none of the songs top the highlights of Gorilla Manor either. It seems more... dark, and laid back.

However, that doesn't mean it isn't interesting and enjoyable. I like it a lot and some of the songs are great, slow building tunes that are a pleasure to my ears. It's really good.

The band Beach Fossils just posted, and deleted about ten minutes later, this amazing gem of indie rock absurdity.

quote:

Music journalism/criticism is for college kids who just discovered there is more to music than Top 40 and need somebody to hold their hand when it comes to forming an opinion. "Baa!" says the sheep. Wake up or get out! The critic has an enormous and comfortable space to rot away behind the computer screen while the artist works their fingers to the bone, traveling the world for a decent and honest living. Don't follow the herd. Either get a lobotomy and become one with the masses or believe in what you love and think for yourself.

This to me was too funny/ridiculous to not post it. The best part is the fact they deleted it like some E/N bullshit within ten minutes. Classic.

I wouldn't be surprised if Payseur wrote this. I love Beach Fossils, but I'll admit Clash The Truth was underwhelming, whiny, and almost made me feel like I was back in my high school post-hardcore, 'deep' music phase. Disappointed to see them reacting like this to the mediocre, and rightfully so, reviews.

Yeah same with me. I liked the first lp enough, and thought the What A Pleasure EP was great start to finish. I could barely make it through Clash The Truth.. I thought it sucked.

I met them once after they played my college's free spring concert held every year (At a bar the other band they were touring with played at later that evening) and got the elitist vibe from them quiet a bit. (The DIIV and Heavenly Beat guys were still in the band and there as well.)

Also, anyone who invalidates the opinion of other's in that manner is one huge tool. The part about making an "honest living" touring across the world was a joke too. He acts like it isn't loving awesome doing such, just stupid.

Jagwar Ma released their debut LP, and it hasn't really seemed to hit that much with people yet, even though it's a lot better than some stuff that gets way more hype/praise.

It's a trippy, catchy ride. It has this old psych vibe to it, but then it throws you for a loop with crazy electro influenced sounds. One song will sound straight up indie psych, and the next will sound like it's taking influence from LCD Soundsystem. Vibes ranging from Tame Impala to Cut Copy, yeah.

There are lots of bands that are poorly reviewed that have legions of fans. I don't think alt-j is any different than them. Sam smith might already be more popular and his album tanked with critics.

I wasn't trying to be a dick, I just don't know what point you were originally trying to make.

Sam Smith isn't a creditable source of what I am saying, I am talking the indie realm, where people usually follow the critics reviews... Of course the critics are going to pan the next Britney Spears album, the next thing Miley Cyrus does, Sam Smith (his music is good but it's not indie at all), etc, etc.

My point is Alt-J is a unique band doing some weird things and are very much the type of band critics normally blow a load over, they don't however, and all the indie kids still seem to eat it up and not let their opinion be dictated by a metacritic score... which isn't always the case.

I guess that was my point?
