Update: I went to A-Priori Seafood and it loving sucked. It's one of those weird restaurants, but not in a good way. Don't waste your time. Their positive Yelp reviews have to be padded by friends or unsavvy yelpers unaware of restaurant options inside the perimeter.

Buford Hwy news: 1. Gu's Bistro on closed down! They're focused on the Krog Market dumpling place now. That market has some serious seating issues though... I'm not sure why the Buford hwy location had to close, as it was always super slammed with customers. 2. That A-Priori restaurant is getting bad reviews on Yelp. The owner is replying to the bad reviews. The responses are hysterical! "Nerve Cell Damage" was quoted in one. Check out the 1 star reviews: http://www.yelp.com/biz/a-priori-seafood-atlanta All the 5 star reviews are obviously friends of the owner. Kinda sad.

Coredump posted:There are parts of this world where Bangladesh is India and India Bangladesh, so I should be excused for getting their food mixed up. Also i just want some Vindaloo. Panahar is okay. meh. The decor and food is just mediocre to the extreme. I've actually never been to Zyka, but I hear it's good. But when I'm out that way, there's really no reason not to go to Chai Pani, which is hands-down the best loving Indian food in the USA. Another new "Indian Street Food" place is Masti over in the Toco Hills shopping center. It's blatantly a Chai Pani rip-off, down to the artwork, decor, and overall theme. The food is a bit different, which is a good thing. It's really hard not to compare it to Chai Pani, but it needs to be done. The food is surprisingly good! It's not as 'fresh' and vibrant, but it still holds its own. No cocktails or decent imbiding here though. Masti is owned by the same guys that own Cafe Bombay just down the road. I'd go here over many other places in Atlanta, or if I want something different than Chai Pani. it's packed full of Indians, so yeah, it's decent. Chai Pani is working on their 2nd location in the Ponce Market, hopefully will be open in the spring?. They (same owners) also just opened up their new BBQ restaurant in Asheville, NC Buxton Hall BBQ which does all old school smoking techniques - http://www.buxtonhall.com/ https://instagram.com/buxtonhallbbq

Goon meet anyone?! The cocktails looks spot-on. There's also a new tiki bowling alley opening up sometime in 2016 with tons of retro parlor games too. http://www.bowlihai.com/

venutolo posted:Holy poo poo Ponce City Market is loving packed tonight. Hey, speaking of, whenever Boti opens up at Ponce City Market, we need to plan a goon meet dinner there. I can arrange it for their opening weekend / weeknight since I can pull strings. It'll probably be early February when they finally open. I also helped film their first TV commercial, so I'll post the video here when it's done with editing

I'm thinking someplace that has a good cheese plate since we have a thing for cheese plates. VDay reservations at Kimball House are booked up, so we are going to The Spence, as they have a pretty nice menu. F&B is closed on Sundays, so check to see if they're open. Maison Robert for local Atlanta chocolate is excellent. Or for semi-local (Asheville, NC), the best poo poo out there is this: https://frenchbroadchocolates.com/

Hey, Chai Pani is about to open their doors to their new style restaurant at Ponce City Market called Botiwalla, which is a new concept. This is an invite to their pre-opening party and film review with the Atlanta Film Festival next week. They shot a kind of documentary type thing in India, similar to Anthony Bourdain. I saw parts of it already; it's pretty good actually! Afterwards is food and drinks (free!) at their new place, but it's still not open yet, so it's a sneak-peek! Anyways, just passing this along if you all wanted to go. It's next Thursday evening if anyone wants to make it a sorta goon meet. $15/ticket, upstairs in Ponce Market. I'll be going and hope to see some of you all there too! https://cuttingchai.splashthat.com/

Comic posted:Not planning to do so casually but if I were to start planning to planning a nice dinner with the intent of ordering an omakase course for two (or I guess... just two of them?), what are the best places I should look at? The ones I've been told about are Umi, Tomo, and MF Sushi. I'm partial to Doraku in Buckhead. It's always not busy, prices are great values, and they have unique menu items that break the trend of all the others. http://dorakusushi.com/store_locator/atlanta/ Funny story about the omakase at Doraku - we were sitting at the sushi bar watching a giant-rear end plate of omakase getting prepared. Probably the best looking plate of sushi I've ever seen, it was massive (it was 3 orders of omakase on one plate). The chef brings it out to a table and explains to them what everything is. The table consisted of a couple of lady friends and Nicholas Cage. Pretty rad! Hayakawa is awesome though. I like Tomo, but it's a little too buckheady.

Comic posted:Thanks, I'm definitely looking at both Hayakawa and Doraku too though, both sound real nice for different reasons. Their online menu sucks and is not accurate for what they have at the restaurant (there's a LOT more on it than online). Their real menu is a wonderful world of obscure stuff, but nothing too weird or unpalatable. They have omakase for $49. Order 2 of these to stuff two people. Park in the garage, and they validate tickets. easy
