So I recently, completely out of the blue, got really into racing games. Been playing iRacing for a few days now and I'm loving it. But I'm playing with a 360 controller and even though I did manage to finish third in an oval race that was mostly due to the fact that people drive like retards in the rookies series. Everybody recommends the G27 wheel but that seems a bit overkill for me. Especially since it costs around $430(!) in Sweden. Any other cheaper options? I don't really care whether it has a clutch and a gearbox and all that fancy stuff. I just want a decent wheel with force feedback.

I actually only own the base game of Race07. So a free expansion is always nice.GutBomb posted:note: requires liking something on facebook. You like it and then unlike it and then also disable all facebook poo poo outside of facebook again.

Ah crap. Yesterday I thought to myself "Assetto Corsa looks nice, but I'll wait and see how it stacks up to Project Cars." To buy or not to buy. I've only played Race07 a bit and the racing sim I've played the most is iRacing but I can't play that so much anymore since the cars are now getting too hard to handle with a 360 controller. I went for iRacing mostly because I like driving against real people where incidents have consequences, since I kept getting rammed off the track in Race07. AC is pretty cheap now though and it has modding. (Does pCars have modding?) drat it, it is as if they could read my mind and put it on sale just as I decided to wait. Edit: Bought it! Combat Pretzel posted:If by stacking up you mean graphics, don't expect things to change. As far as PCARS modding goes, SMS was pretty schizo about it, arguing both for and against it, without saying anything really. Given where the core of SMS really started out from (modding a goddamn game), it's a drat shame. I meant overall, graphics while nice, aren't that important to me as long as the driving is fun. Haven't played a lot of AC just yet since I just got it but it is nice and the modding is great. But for some reason downloaded cars don't show up in the menus but tracks do. So I'm probably doing something wrong. Edit: Oops, never mind it works now. Boar It fucked around with this message at 14:50 on Aug 22, 2014 |

The Reliant Robin is the best car in AC. http://pahlavan.se/dump/reliantrobin_nurnburgring.webm Having lots of fun with it. If somebody has any fun tracks or cars that they have links to then do tell.

Combat Pretzel posted:I'm talking about the core staff of SMS and how they got started in the games business ages before NFS Shift. They got their careers started by modding GTL or whatever it was, and now they're rather opposed to even allow it in PCARS. Well, to be fair, making the game mod friendly takes a lot of time and effort. I've only had Assetto Corsa for a few hours but most of that time I have been loving around with custom cars and levels. Modding adds an immense value to the game so I really hope they reconsider, but again, if their engine/game isn't made with modding in mind from the ground up, it can be really hard to implement. Sometimes it can also be an issue of licensing. They might be using technology created by somebody else and in order to give out mod tools they have to get permission. For got to mention that the escort was one of the first things I downloaded. If only it was available with the steering wheel on the left, where it should be. Regardless, gonna check out the track.

Will the cars be a part of the base content? As in, added to the Early Access release or added as dlc post launch? Also, so far I have not seen a single car with damage models. I have visual damage enabled in the options too but I get nothing. Think a wheel popped at most. I read that they are still working on it but I figured some cars already had it. Evidently not. Doesn't matter all that much but it is fun to see how much you can bang up a car.

explosivo posted:Is AC playable/fun with a 360 controller? I'm not looking to get a wheel but have been looking for something to replace Forza as I certainly won't be buying an Xbone specifically to play it. Haven't played AC a lot yet but the five hours I've spent with it have been just fine with my 360 controller.

AC is great but it really makes me miss the safety rating system of iRacing. People keep ramming me for no reason.

Kilonum posted:I just stick to singleplayer because I know I suck at racing. The main reason I got into racing games was for the multiplayer experience. But I'll still play AC online and enjoy it. Always fun to see how many people crash on the first turn. I'm terrible at driving, I don't even have a wheel yet. So people crashing into me won't cause me to rage. But it is a tad annoying when people ram into me on a straight repeatedly when there is plenty of space to go around.

track day bro! posted:Lots of sim 'racing' people seem to have their heads up their asses. I remember searching for some information on the 360 controller in ac and just finding tonnes of 'LOL CONTROLLER CONSOLE KIDDIE NOOB' posts instead. God forbid someone not want to spend hundreds on a wheel setup or maybe not just have the space for a sperg seat. It's even worse in iRacing with people telling the devs to remove controller support all together. I managed to get a B in oval racing with a 360 controller so they can suck it. Even won a road race with my 360 controller somehow.

Cojawfee posted:People will sperg on iRacing if anything exists or has the possibility to exist and they don't want it. Someone recently posted a thread asking if the devs were planning on updating the force feedback in the game. Queue up a bunch of people saying "Maybe you should go back to Assetto Corsa." Over loving force feedback. People like that are part of the reason why I like iRacing. Because it is those people who rage the hardest over the most trivial things during a race. You always get some mid race entertainment.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some decent, not too expensive, wheel stands? Been looking around a bit myself as well but it would be nice to get some recommendations. I have a G27 by the way. (Finally)

I mainly play iRacing but I also own Assetto Corsa. I enjoy racing games because of the online racing that something like iRacing offers. AC's offline racing doesn't really do it for me, is Game Stock Car worth a go if you already own AC? Seems like it has nice open wheel stuff, more than AC and I would like a nice racer for offline racing.

Psy890 posted:AC does have multi-player now. Ah yes. Should've been more specific, looking for a better offline experience. I do all of my online racing in iRacing, I like the SR system and whatnot. I kept getting rammed in AC. Not that everybody playing is ramming or anything but I like the matchmaking and stuff in iRacing. Gonna try the demo for stock car extreme again. Last time it kept crashing but it turns out you need to run it as an admin or something. Edit: Stock car extreme doesn't control right for me. Force feedback set to 100% (for some reason defaults to -100%?) causes my wheel to always want to go 900 degrees in the direction I'm only slightly turning. Edit again: God drat, I can't drive for poo poo in this game. iRacing, for whatever reason, is much more forgiving when it comes to switching gears manually with a clutch at low speeds. That looks amazing but wasn't pCars going to be a bit more arcadey? Nothing wrong with that but that's what I have heard at least. Not tried it myself.

I said come in! posted:The sim racing community is a bunch of assholes is what you wanted to say. I'll never understand this desire to be a warrior for one sim and one sim only. One of the best things to do in iRacing after a wreck is to say "It's just a videogame". But yeah, PCARS looks like it could be fun, too bad games nowadays don't have demos.

Sadly I haven't. But there has been plenty of people explaining to me why iRacing is not a videogame, it's A SIMULATOR. Yes, a videogame that simulates racing. They didn't like my response.
