Natsu banzuke is out. I'm pretty new to the whole sumo thing but Okinoumi seemingly gets a huge push from M7 to a titled rank (komusubi) and there are a lot more new wrestlers in the makuuchi rankings then I remember seeing previously. Two weeks to go!

Day 7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFsch6qmUS0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtONXNYvBD4 Poor Baruto. If you slow it down to .25x you can see his foot slip to a bad angle with a lot of pressure on it at :16. He needs to take a couple tournaments off and really let that sucker heal. To me it seems like a bitch move, he didn't even touch the ground at the beginning. Just moved his hand downwards and then Toyonoshima was in the first row of spectators

Wiki says posted:The de facto standard is to win two consecutive championships as ōzeki or an equivalent performance. In the case where the "equivalent performance" criterion is used the wrestler's record over the previous three tournaments is taken into account with an expectation of at least one tournament victory and two runner-up performances, with none of the three records falling below twelve wins. If you're close to the standards they may debate your promotion by looking at the quality of your wins/horribleness of your losses/total tournament wins/etc. Basically if they wanted to promote a Japanese yoko I'm sure they could get away with it easily enough. edit - Here's Kisenosato's records If he pulls off a zen yusho I could see him getting the promotion but anything else and I think it's still a tad premature. Last 10 tournaments: Hakuho 132-18 .8800 Harumafuji 112-38 .7455 Kisenosato 104-46 .6933 Kakuryu 96-54 .6400 Kotoshogiku 85-65 .5666 (missed most of Sept. 2009 tournament) Baruto 75-75 .5000 (won a total of 5 matches in three tournaments where he was injured) Kotooshu 74-76 .4933 (missed two tourneys) Yeah I had way too much coffee this morning. I could definitely see him getting the promotion with a championship even if he loses one or two matches. Harumafuji's 44-16 in his last four tourneys so the Yokozuna bar is seemingly low right now. Hakuho's a dreamboat though Omnikin fucked around with this message at 15:48 on Jun 24, 2013 |

I laughed out loud when Hakuho rode him off the dohyo like a sled For a second I thought Tochinoshin was going to pick Chiyonokuni over his head and slam him down in the ring, that was impressive! edit- it's going to be interesting moving forward this basho for Osunaarashi. I don't know, Kise's (9-3) in a bad spot for second methinks. Pulls one of the Yokos tomorrow and the other must be waiting for him day 14/15. Meanwhile Aoiyama (10-2) gets Takayasu and Kaisei (9-3) faces Masunoyama, both tomorrow. Certainly an easier road for the lower ranked wrestlers. Tomorrow! Hakuho-Kotooshu Harumafuji-Kisenosato

I feel like Harumafuji's on thinning ice here so he's getting frustrated/edgy/itchy what have you. More wins for Hakuho, our one true savior. Oh also Shohozan owns edit - also yeah I'm trying to catch the "super rare technique" Hakuho used and it's lost on me. Slowed it down to .25x speed and still couldn't pick it out from any other toss

Yeah, besides the weird loss to Kitataiki he's only dropped matches against Harumafuji, Kisenosato (which was a spirited loss), and Ikioi (who he's historically had trouble with). I'd like to see him get to 10 wins Tomorrow Hakuho v Kakuryu (21 - 2 head to head) Harumafuji v Kisenosato (27 - 19)

Inches away from a save there for Hakuho, but props to Harumafuji on that crazy fluid tachai Great year for Hakuho anyway- wins four out of six bashos and posts an 82-8 record. Noone else even comes close to that (Harumafuji 69-21, Kisenosato 68-22).

Kisenosato primed for promotion redux Posted an article earlier in the thread in which the (creatively titled) Yokozuna Deliberation Council stated that a strong yusho (13+ wins AND the championship) would be the only scenario in which Kisenosato could be promoted. They've slightly lowered the bar quote:The Japan Sumo Association’s Yokozuna Deliberation Council on Thursday explained what the ozeki will need to accomplish once the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament begins on Jan. 12. Kisenosato will need to earn his first Emperor’s Cup with a minimum of 13 victories or finish with a 14-1 with the only loss coming in the title-clinching bout
