Someone was bothering this guy with a stick to get him out of the neat little ball he'd made up on the side of a building. They wanted to poke him onto the ground, but I made them stop because falling pretty much explodes their innards.

My photo fail story of the day.

So I'm walking down a trail at a local wetlands preserve doing some scouting for a shoot. A rabbit comes running up the path toward me, veers off and runs into the woods. Moments later a large ferret like animal (turns out it was a mink) pops out of the woods and starts running toward me down the trail (in pursuit of the rabbit, I believe.) The mink stops 3 feet from me, looks at me for a good 5-10 seconds, paces back and forth for a few seconds, then runs off into the woods.

That's the moment I realized I had a camera in my hand. gently caress.

Holistic Detective, those are nice! Very handsome horse indeed.

I've been unintentionally stalking a black-tailed jackrabbit. I keep seeing it eating in the evening. I think I might try to intentionally stalk her (him?!) because I really like how she runs.

I'm jealous that you got to see a condor (and photograph one). I was looking up the whole time I was at the Grand Canyon about a year ago, and no dice. How weird was it to see a giant bird?

The birds were massive, they were flying right overhead and all around one of the main overlook areas. They looked like they were big enough to fly off with a small child if they so pleased. If memory serves me right there were a good 6 or 7 of them just zipping around the rim putting on a ridiculous show that day, we got seriously lucky. There's a few more pictures in the stream of them too.

I was so excited to see Condors when we went the Grand Canyon this year. They'd been the #1 bird I'd wanted to see when I was a kid and spent a whole trip to California with my eyes to the skies not knowing that they were essentially all in captivity then. Fortunately I noticed that they also were seen on the California coast so on our way down the Pacific Coast highway I kept my eyes open and ended up with a group of 11 birds soaring 50ft over my head. It was lucky too, since I only saw one at the Grand Canyon and it was very high and far away. Surprisingly, they seemed smaller than I expected.

I just got my first decent camera so went to Marwell Wildlife in Hampshire to try it out. Never taken pics of animals close-up before so it was interesting working out what works best and how to try and hide the fact they're in captivity especially the animals in cages. These are the ones I think are best, but I've got another 100+ odd on my Flickr. All the photos were taken on a Sony Cybershot HX200V.
