Ghost Cactus posted:My photos don't compare with the quality in this thread at all, but I have javelina! I love these even if they are not the greatest ever. Javelina are the reason I bought a DSLR. I missed some great pictures of them because I have a crappy point and shoot. Now I just need to get out there and get some pictures of them.

Bialosky posted:Good lord. Is this a pet or is this guy just used to being fed trail snacks all the time? Chipmunks and squirrels on top of mountains are usually used to being hand fed. I worked at a scout camp so most of the chipmunks were like that when they were not busy chewing their way through your backpack looking for peanut butter. Here is a quick snapshot from Yellowstone. This guy was moving fast.

torgeaux posted:I'm pretty sure those are chipmunks. Chipmunks are squirrels. That is the thing about using common names. They are not very descriptive. Atticus_1354 fucked around with this message at 01:10 on Mar 3, 2012 |

torgeaux posted:Did not know that. I've never heard anyone call them that, the distinction is always there. Most people don't call them that, but they are all in the same family so it is close enough.

I was looking for some thoughts on these two photos. Both were pretty much accidental finds while I was taking pictures of plants for a class. The lizard actually ran in to the frame of another photo and sat there or else I may not have noticed him. Snake by atticus_1354, on Flickr I am not sure if I like the colors that this ended up with. Lizard by atticus_1354, on Flickr This one I like a little more except that his tail got cut off because I was using a 35mm prime and a DCR-250 macro lens and ran out of focus range.

InternetJunky posted:Congratulations! You've captured the Jabba-the-hutt of Squirrels That aint even close. I have seen squirrels who could barely walk and for sure couldn't climb trees. That is a good picture anyways. looks like you got right down on his level which makes for a better picture.

I really need to start saving for a lens with a little more reach. Also shooting from the bed of a truck is hard so I had to trash even more pictures than normal. These were taken at Elephant Mountain WMA in West Texas in case anyone was interested. Big Horn by atticus_1354, on Flickr Mule deer by atticus_1354, on Flickr red racer by atticus_1354, on Flickr

Ghost Cactus posted:Some oryx graced me with their presence the other day. I turned off the car and hopped out, but dipshits pulled up right next to them and nearly got them hung up on some barbed wire. Poor guys. Do you live in El Paso county or were you just passing through? Where did you see these guys?

Has anyone mounted their dslr to a spotting scope? Specifically I have a D5100 and am going to be buying a spotting scope soon and want to use it to get long range video of some wildlife. Any suggestions ideas or examples of setups with any camera or scope?

Well I just supported the redsnap kickstarter so I can get the wildlife kit. I am so excited by the idea that I can put a infared sensor on my camera. Going to use my 35mm lens to shoot wildlife at scent stations. Anyone do anything like that before?
