Was in San Diego and made it out to the zoo. Weather was great and most of the animals were active, though I continue my unbroken streak of never seeing a Red Panda do anything except sleep in a place where I can only barely make out a patch of fur. Everything shot on a Nikon D40 and a Nikkor 55-200mm lens.

Lighting was not ideal but it's impossible not to have fun shooting these guys.

I love shooting animals but it's the only time I really feel like I'm running up against the limitations of my gear. A cheap old crop sensor body and a 200mm lens requires a lot of compromises that I can usually get around when practicing portraits / landscapes, etc., but there's a ton of potential shots that I just straight up can't make happen.
