I really rate Bonobo as well, though they're much softer and a different style to most of the stuff posted here. Check out their stuff on youtube - I'd recommend listening to Kiara, Eyesdown and Black Sands to get a feel for their music.

I'll never forget this intro to Paul Oakenfold's essential mix. It's somehow been a running joke between a friend and I for 13 years.

It isn't the greatest club on the island (I'm a Pacha man myself), but yeah I really wouldn't skip on going there. And that Essential Mix is amazing; in fact Oakenfold's entire series that year was just phenomenal. Listening to those sets and seeing him in Sydney pretty much locked me into trance for the next five years!

Only recently discovered Edu Imbernon but he's quickly becoming one of my favourites. Really nice techno/deep house, a bit slower and groovier than the banging stuff I normally like.

Maceo Plex is a whinging crybaby, but I'm surprised that's news to anyone? I really rate Nina Kraviz and can't wait to see her out here next month! She's playing a rooftop party at Red Bull's Sydney HQ which should be off the hook.

Saw Kraftwerk doing their 3D show at the Sydney Opera House the other night - what an amazing experience! The guys did their keyboards thing live on stage, while a huge backdrop behind them went crazy with 3D visuals.

I usually start with sets from more well-known DJs, look through track listings and dig into producers and remixers that sound interesting, rinse and repeat.

For example my favourite DJ of the last few years is Henry Saiz, I first discovered him when Digweed played a few of his tracks and remixes on Kiss back in the day. From there I found Saiz's podcast, and the cycle started again.

I think you're making a fairly common mistake, in that genres aren't discrete, objective buckets. Genres are very subjective labels, and mean different things to different people. I'd worry less about the genre and more about the DJ, personally.

Sasha is pretty hot or cold for me these days, usually way more cold than hot, and after the disappointment of Involv3r I was pretty close to giving up on him.

Whilst that is all well and good, this is the techno thread and not the trance orchestra thread. The vast majority of techno tracks can't be played acoustically or arranged like that (some have though). Techno is about experimentation with sounds and making futuristic poo poo that doesn't make much sense in traditional music terms but works in a club.
