Here's 2 hours of Sven Vath cranking it out at Ultra:

Are there any good Spotify playlists I should be following for this sort of music?

The more I think about it, I'm tending to agree. What's another €50 party ticket? Especially since Space is the first club I heard of in Ibiza ever since my fascination with the place began in 1999. I'll never forget this intro to Paul Oakenfold's essential mix. It's somehow been a running joke between a friend and I for 13 years.

It isn't the greatest club on the island (I'm a Pacha man myself), but yeah I really wouldn't skip on going there. And that Essential Mix is amazing; in fact Oakenfold's entire series that year was just phenomenal. Listening to those sets and seeing him in Sydney pretty much locked me into trance for the next five years!

I usually start with sets from more well-known DJs, look through track listings and dig into producers and remixers that sound interesting, rinse and repeat.

For example my favourite DJ of the last few years is Henry Saiz, I first discovered him when Digweed played a few of his tracks and remixes on Kiss back in the day. From there I found Saiz's podcast, and the cycle started again.

Here is an inquisitive paragraph if anyone feels like giving me their 2 cents.

I'm kind of a scrub who doesn't get to go to see as many (good) Djs out as I'd like. Do a lot of them mix Tech and Deep house tracks? How much blurring is there between genres? feel free to chime in with your own personal favorite DJ of the moment's habits, I'm very interested. Also how often do they incorporate their own songs into their mixes, and if they do, how much is too much/expected?

I think you're making a fairly common mistake, in that genres aren't discrete, objective buckets. Genres are very subjective labels, and mean different things to different people. I'd worry less about the genre and more about the DJ, personally.

Some of my favourites lately, which may or may not be tech/deep/house ;)

The answer is, mate, because I want to do you slowly. There has to be a bit of sport in this for all of us. In the psychological battle stakes, we are stripped down and ready to go. I want to see those ashen-faced performances; I want more of them. I want to be encouraged. I want to see you squirm.

Dusty Kid earlier today linked a free downloadable album

(is that berghain??)

Very dark/dubby compared to most of his stuff.

This is pretty solid, though very different to what I'm used to from him.

Couple of recent killer sets I've been listening to:

Dixon's Essential Mix: https://soundcloud.com/innervisions/essential-mix-september-2013
(this version is missing Pete Tong's voiceovers and that seriously annoying IT WAS DEEP IT WAS SOULFUL IT WAS DISCO IT WAS TECHNO clip they loving love to play every 2 minutes, just in case you forgot it was an Essential Mix)

Martin Garcia - Cabin Pressure on Frisky Radio July 2013: https://soundcloud.com/lanparty/frisky-cabin-pressure-martin
Amazing stuff, highlights include a stellar Tilt track early on and a storming Henry Saiz remix about an hour in.
