Who will win the greatest battle of them all?

Didn't realize this thread existed. Also very cool to know that Nautiluss is a goon, except I'm dumb and missed him play at SXSW.

I've been fiddling around with Spotify with random tracks I've liked from this thread and have thrown together a collaborative playlist here:
http://open.spotify.com/user/air-/playlist/0PedRknqsrGB0JORWJiLnC

Feel free to add! And to me, I think Disclosure would fit here since it's more UK bass oriented, but can't deny the house influence is very there.

Someone who was there last year can probably give you a better idea though.

Went last year. VIP is well worth the money this time around for me because the price differential against GA works out in favor of having access to the shuttle and drink tickets versus paying for drinks/taxi separately.

Last year, my group rented a car (free parking) and hotel room and those got split up 3 ways. This time, no rental car since we have two rooms, and one room is gonna have a carload of people driving from out of town. One thing to also factor is transportation to/from the airport, and this year, using a taxi should be cheaper than car rental because we're staying at a hotel that charges for parking.

Net expense per person for room/transportation (this is without factoring each person's airfare/taxis to after parties) was roughly $330 a person. Probably spent about $20-30 a day on food/booze.

I'd also start listening to podcasts: CLR (overall my favorite label and the reason I like techno), Drumcode, Dave Clark's White Noise, Louche, Naked Lunch just to name a few but it feels like a bottomless pit of stuff to listen to sometimes. These have new episodes pretty much on a weekly basis too.

e: When I'm totally bored, I like to punch in Berghain on soundcloud and just listen to whatever comes up, or pick a random set on Paxahau's... aaaand on that note, the Movement phase 1 lineup is out next Tuesday :radcat:

One question that'll probably come up for Movement: VIP vs GA. Benefits this year got scaled back (no more free drink tickets wtf), all in all, I found it well worth the upgrade.

quote:

VIP Ticket Details:

Private check-in area and entrance

Access to large area above and behind the main stage

Variety of deluxe furnished areas for relaxation

Viewing platforms for multiple stages

Discounted drinks available at VIP bars

Exclusive premium drink choices available at VIP bars

Deluxe private executive bathroom trailers

Complimentary chair massage in the main VIP area

A pair of Movement 2015 Sunglasses

Official Movement T-shirt (while supplies last)

Access to the Official Movement VIP hotel, while supplies last

(An email will be going out to all VIP ticket purchasers very soon providing access to reserve your room)

Perks I liked most were check in and bathrooms having zero wait. On top of that, check in had lax security, bathrooms were much nicer than the portapotties.

One huge tip I learned last year was the DanceSafe tent. I'm not just saying this for :420: safety, because they have stuff like sunscreen, bandaids, condoms... the best part is they will refill water for free, so bring an empty camelbak/nalgene or whatever and save money.

Oh yeah, some comments on Movement afterparties: I'm ashamed to say I have yet to go to soul skate, but this year, I'm planning to play it by ear and no more buying presales.

St. Andrews and Bleu can both eat poo poo. There was no point buying presales since the line still took over an hour for both the afters I hit at those venues (Ghostly and CLR).

Have you been before? I'll be in Europe around that time and really contemplating going.

Been to Amsterdam but not to that festival. Main things I heard from a friend who went last year are it's really small so you can easily hop across stages and the sound is stellar all around. Every stage has Funktion Ones. Either Mixmag or XLR8R (maybe both) had glowing reviews. Looks like the format has changed a little, there's an opening event and some other venues outside Amsterdam Bos to be used for that opening night party and possibly night programming.

Got my ticket to the opening night and the 3 days.

e: I'll do the same real soon for Dimensions, which just dropped their initial lineup. They announced a capacity limit this year!

Question: are festivals like Dekmantel and Dimensions similar to festivals in North America where most DJs play shorter sets. 1 or 2 hours max.
I love Movement and the chance to see so many artists in 3 days but lately I've started to dislike the quick hitting sets and much prefer the longer sets at after-parties.

What am I saying!? I should just go solo and have a blast.

Expect something similar to Movement, where most sets are 60-90 minutes and then there's a few like how last year Chris Liebing got 3 hrs underground. I'm having trouble getting the link copied on my phone... punch Dekmantel 2014 timetable into Google and you'll see it's the very first result. There's some longer sets listed.

I think you said you're going to be in Berlin too? I'm looking to add a Berghain visit as well after Dekmantel.

NO NO NO, the border crossing can eat up a ton of time and generally not advised to stay in Windsor. Your best option at this point is to drive or use uber. Cabs are fine going from the airport into downtown, but you'll learn real quick to avoid them while actually in the city since nobody runs their meters.

Other tips...

Movement attendees are the coolest group of people I've ever run into. Don't be intimidated... smile, dance, geek out over tunes.

Marathon, not a sprint. Core essentials: comfy broken in shoes, ear plugs, water, don't forget to take breaks to sit down and eat.

The Dancesafe tent is your best friend for random essentials. At the very least you could refill cold water for free, but it's a safe place to go if you/someone else is having a tough time.

air-

Have you ever experienced the lines at a border crossing? Windsor isn't far but it's also impossible to predict how long the processing time and delays will take on the Canada to US transition (that's the more likely possibility) so it really could put a huge dent into your plans.

I don't even wanna imagine how suspicious Border Patrol would treat you once you're crossing the border for like the 3rd/4th time in a weekend with them knowing you're going to an electronic music festival. gently caress that.

e: Please don't take all that the wrong way, but I got the impression that you're severely underestimating the odds of having delays (or worse). We all want to have a good time and this isn't worth potentially ruining the whole experience.

Sunday: constantly move between Made In Detroit and Underground (Rodhad - Dettmann - Ben Klock :stare:), Monday is pretty much all RBMA (JETS - Ben UFO - Joy O), might catch Sterac. Can't wait for Squarepusher.
