if i had to point to something then it's probably the kick/snare and the hoovery synth together that nail down the genre for me tbh i think you're missing the point with trance, it's more of a mindset with providence rather than something you throw in a blender with all the other genres. there's no trance synths or trance drums or whatever you can point to as a descriptor, it's all been copied and thrifted from music at the time to create a party music, trance. you can go back thru sasha/oakenfold mixes and see some off the wall tracks. much like the uk hardcore continuum.
