My friend just sent me this and I just started listening, I'm not that far in but it's not my favorite but I like a bit of the tracks (first is great!) I wanted to see what you guys thought because this is him claiming what he thinks is good techno.

Seems to be kind of that Carl Cox big room techno/tech-house sound. Not really what I'm into personally but it's cool that DM is experimenting (<-closet DM fan).

Btw, I have two new techno podcasts/radio shows on my soundcloud if anyone is interested: https://soundcloud.com/ttinga.

Hi thread,

I'm a complete novice when it comes to techno, but I'm looking for more stuff in the vein of L.F.O., Gescom, Balil and Lego Feet. Sorry if not all of that is actually techno, but if you could point me in the direction of some similar sounding stuff, that would be great. Also if anyone has the knowledge to update the OP with a bit of a guide to some old and new essential techno songs/EPs/albums/mixes, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like you are basically looking for the early Warp records catalog. Not sure who is doing the sound now but I'm sure there are some.

Thanks, that's really helpful! In terms of modern stuff, I'm not expecting it to sound like the Bleep stuff, just looking for general recommendations because I'm a complete novice. What songs/mixes whatever would you give to someone who wanted to get into techno?

I'll just list a few that I'm into although I like the modern darker and more experimental/IDM sounding stuff.

Labels: Stroboscopic Artefacts, CLR, Brood Audio, Perc Trax
Artists: Tommy Four Seven, Dadub, Dronelock, VSK, Drumcell, Scalameriya, Xhin, Dubit

on the softer side the Voices from the Lake album was pretty popular a year or two ago. The Recondite album too I believe.

Forthcoming track here from me: https://soundcloud.com/ttinga/homestead. More of a dark broken beat style.

Is this is the relevant thread to talk about Ultra music festival and EDM and good things like that?

Not really, try the house/electro thread. I believe there was an EDM thread floating around for a while as well.

Hey guys, forgive me if there's a better forum for this, but I'm looking for some minimal techno for a set I'm working on. I Usually mix stuff like Droplex, Jus Deelax, Daniel Portman, etc. Looking for some producers that are a little less well known. Preferably stuff that isn't too dark and is more dancey. I know techno purists are bound to find these guys a bit on the cheese end of the spectrum but I figured I'd give it a shot here anyways.

These may be too dark for you but they are danceable so I will throw them out. Maksim Dark, Dadive, Knobs are a few artists and check out the labels Lethal Dose and D.M.T.
