I liked Matt Kindt & co's Cosmic Detective and HEK Treasury. Saladin Ahmed's Dragon was good too. Kindt is someone I follow pretty closely but a lot of his Bad Idea stuff has been inaccessible to me.

Cool, I noticed Kindt is the writer on that Keanu book Brzrkr oddly enough. Also, I've been re-looking into some comics I was interested in 20 years ago for nostalgia and whatnot. Noble Causes, Firebreather, Jack Staff, lot of early 00s Image stuff and whatnot. And any takes on Powers, does it fall off or anything? I see issue 7 guest stars Warren Ellis which is a bit awkward. Thinking I'll read at least the first couple trades even if I don't stick with it. I liked the first issue or two at the time. Also I was thinking I'd read a little Crossgen, have about 16 issues of Sigil and Scion to check out each. Looks like writers change a couple times and they don't get an ending, but look kind of cool anyway.

Jack Staff is super fun. Firebreather is also good, but the third volume got canceled with only half the issues out and I don't think it was ever completed. Don't watch the movie.

Right on, thanks! I see on comicvine Firebreather is in a couple recent-ish books probably as a background cameo, Local Man: Gold and Johnny Raygun/Savage Dragon, Jack Staff is in that second one too.

If you dig Noble Causes the writer also did Dynamo 5 which has the cool concept of a Superman expy slept around a ton and each of his five children got one of his powers when he died and are organized into a group by his wife who did not know about his indiscretions until he died. Also features some early Mahmud Asar art. They even do the Power Pack thing of sometimes they switch powers.

I'm seeing stuff on this void rivals series from skybound. Is it part of the energon universe with gi Joe and transformers? Or just it's own separate thing?

Yes, it's the first part of the Energon thing. I've not read it so I can't really give you any idea if it or Transformers is good or not but the new GI Joe issues have been good so far. And the new artist on Real American Hero is great.

Void Rivals is okay, after the initial surprise it hasn't grabbed me as much. Transformers is fantastic, but I'm a Daniel Warren Johnson fanboy and he's drawing giant robots suplexing each other which is basically my ideal comic book.

Yeah I'm not really into Transformers at all. I do like GI Joe though and the Duke and Cobra Commander first issues were very good. Though I do wish they'd have a little bit less tie-in with Transformers. But I'm not gonna win that battle I know. And knowing as they say...

The new Kid Cudi/Kyle Higgins book "Moon Man" is off to an okay start. Astronaut returns home from a mission with seven minutes of lost time and mysterious powers, and finds himself in opposition to the megacorporation which funded the mission. It's a good premise and the art is nice. There are a few indie books I'm following that I kind of wish would wrap up at this point. Monstress just keeps going, Killadelphia has had some fun recent crossovers with Image classics but they don't really fit the universe, and Something is Killing the Children is getting more complicated over time. The inconsistent release schedules for a lot of them don't help. I should also stop doing most of my reading in bed before I go to sleep because it's hard to retain information in that state, but I don't always have time to read them at work.

I found 2 volumes Four Eyes by Kelly at a second hand store and liking his I Kill Giants I picked them up. I expected it to be a limited series like I Kill Giants but I see it is an ongoing which wouldn't be a problem as it was building an interesting world and I was curious to see where it would go. Then....it just stops. There are only two volumes and everywhere I look online it says "ongoing" but nothing about any issues outside of the first two volumes. I am extremely annoyed at Four Eyes right now. I guess it means that the title was just abandoned and will never be finished.

There was this Image comic about some village that had battles in their town square, but it was cooking instead of fighting. That series was awesome, dropped after like 6 issues, and promised a web comic continuation in the last issue that never happened. Fake edit: Flavor

I'm not an expert on Thundercats (I don't remember a lot of the cartoon after the first ten or so episodes) but the new series is off to a good start. I think they're doing some different stuff with the lore but like I said I'm not certain.

I enjoyed the first issue and I think it shows promise, but I also think I might be looking at it with nostalgia goggles too much. I'm on a childhood nostalgia high after Transformers, cobra commander, and Duke. I think it's going to need a bit more of an engaging plot hook in issue 2 to keep me coming back, but I really hope it delivers. I want it to be good.

Anyone picking up any new #1s today? I've been considering If You Find This I'm Already Dead, The Infernals, The Cabinet, and The Displaced. Probably can't fit more than one into my budget though and I have a hard time justifying the first one at that 7.99 price.

My glass half full thing, sometimes these indie comics that never get an ending, it makes me feel like I could just read two or three volumes to try it with no pressure. Like I've had the first volume of Morning Glories forever, still kinda curious what it's like so thinking I'll read a few, but if it goes downhill it doesn't matter to me so much since it didn't conclude anyway. So many things never have an ending, or have a bad one, being unfinished is kind of not a dealbreaker for me. At least, for trying a title. If it was one of my top favs, I'd be annoyed it never ended. But being into say anime from back in the day, not having an ending is practically the expected situation. Though they often have a manga that maybe got fan translated or something.

He will have a story in mind, and then get assigned big two characters where people think "that character would never do that." The biggest offender was a mini that turned Wally West into an insane mass murderer. But if it's his own characters, there's no preconceived notions of how a character would act, so that's not an issue. I actually do like some of his big two stuff, but even some of the stuff I like has characters feeling a bit off. Also he's probably a war criminal.
