Had DFH My Antonia last night. It was good, but not $16 good. Who prices these things?

Really I just wanted to say the poo poo post tag is a blight on my control panel

edit: oh it's fixed now

16 sounds really expensive, did you have the Birra del Borgo version imported from Italy, or the DFH brewed version from the USA? The DFH version should retail at about 9 bucks a bottle, but the Birra del Borgo version isn't all that overpriced at 16.

It was definitely the DFH version. I was driving back from DC with the wife and we stopped at a beer store in Maryland; I probably was a little bit :stare: at the selection even though the prices weren't all that great.

Speaking of Russian River, sometime in August I'm going to be driving through Pennsylvania and I was wondering what Russian River brews are available at the beer distributors there. I know they generally don't carry the full lineup, but can I get Pliny? The sours?

I don't think I've ever seen Pliny in Pittsburgh, but I generally don't look too hard for beer since it's such a pain in the rear end to buy here. I think your best bet is going to be D's Six Pack and Dogz in Regent Square, or maybe the Giant Eagle in Settler's Ridge which, last time I was there, had a cafe area that was technically a bar so you can buy beer (carefully roped off from the rest of the store to prevent any beer cross-contamination). Like Phanatic said, though, you'll be paying slightly discounted bar prices, so don't expect to get a good deal.

Well that explains why I've never seen it here, then.

Bud Light Lime-a-Rita is honestly delicious and tastes approximately like a Tom Collins in a can when poured over ice. I figure if you add a little gin it will be even better and closer to a TC. It's going to be my summer drink of choice, at least until something terrible happens (which is basically inevitable).

Honestly, I think every beer has its place, even the big macro stuff. As I tell my friends, there's a big difference between a beer geek and a beer snob - I will happily drink most macros if offered to me (the only one I refuse is straight MGD; blecch).

I think there's some truth to that; if I'm at a party I don't have a problem drinking macros (or yuengling, which is the thing around here) but I'm not going to sit down and have a blue moon or a Budweiser at home after a long day (unless someone left it at my house).

Weihenstephaner Original is just a lager, I think? It's also really drat good.

It sucks when you buy a case of Original when you were expecting Hefeweizen, though (which happened to a buddy of mine).

Found a great bottle shop in Pittsburgh (finally) - picked up six packs of Oberon and Hopslam (which I've actually never seen anywhere). I've had the former, and can't wait to try the latter.

Tried that Hop Stoopid the other day, but it actually tasted a bit onion/garlicky to me for some reason. Was still good, just not what I was expecting.

I think Summit hops are what give it that "savory IPA" flavor. I first noticed it in Oskar Blues' Gubna I think. It's not bad, but I usually prefer a fruity/floral/piney hop flavor if I'm in the mood for an IPA.

Deschutes released Black Butte XXIV yesterday. To celebrate, the Portland and Bend brewpubs were pouring verticals of XXI through XXIV. Unfortunately, I missed the vertical tasting, but they were still pouring both the XXI and the XXIV in the Portland brewpub tonight.

Black Butte XXI is still going strong and has developed into something that is both incredibly delicious and quite drinkable. If you have any bottles, I suggest that you drink them soon as I don't see this getting any better. In fact, I think it has faded a bit since I drank some about 6 months ago.

Black Butte XXIV was shockingly drinkable and delicious for such a big beer at such a young age. By comparison, I had a 12 ounce glass of the XXIII on release a year ago and it was difficult to finish the last half of the glass because the beer was so intense. This year's version is less over-the-top and much more drinkable. Deschutes brewed this batch with dates and figs and those fruit notes come through very clearly, which I love. Also, the coffee and chocolate notes are quite a bit more subdued than in previous versions. My overall impression is that the beer is not going to be as ageable as previous releases, but is delicious from the start unlike some of the others.

Why did I move out of the northwest :negative:

I think I have a couple of bottles of XXI left from before I moved, though. I should probably drink those.

Just picked up a case of this. Yay Pennsylvania! :pwn:
