I have been trying out some of the micro-in-a-cans lately. Yesterday was Dale's Pale Ale from Oskar Blues, and I enjoyed. Good sharp hop flavor with a clean finish, low on the maltiness. Anyone have some other cans to recommend?

RE: 21st Amendment Bitter American, I bought this initially because the chimp on the front looks like GWB, and ended up liking it a lot. I here you other posters with it's lack of malt, but I guess I expect bitters to be pretty light. English style bitter can be quite low ABV. Either way, one a cold one of those on a hot day is amazing.

Other OB stuff: Old Chub, Mama's Little Yella Pils. Gubna or Deviant Dale's depending on what type of hop profile you're into. Hard to make any more suggestions without knowing your location and what's distributed there though!

I have seen the Yella Pils at the store, will have to try that out. I am in Portland, OR, so our distribution is pretty drat good. I used to be into big skunky IPAs in terms of hops, but recently I have been more into floral hops, or at least things with a crisp finish.

21st Ammendment's Monk's Blood is a killer dark belgian. Their Hell or High Watermelon is great if you like summer wheat beers - it tastes like a biscuit-wrapped watermelon rind. Sounds gross, I know, but it's terrific.

I have tried them both and think they are great. The Watermelon is a little odd at first, but drat refreshing on a hot day. Not something I can drink more than one of in a row though.

Thanks for the suggestions, I feel like I have seen these in the beer section and will have to try them out. Time to do some "research" :chord:

Ugh I hate people that get too elitist about their beers. Everyone tastes things differently and prefer different flavors, so arguing about it can be like swinging dicks on the internet. That being said, some things like Corona just plain suck.

Also, if you are going to be a snob, be this kind of snob.

Hey guys I think I'm gonna be in charge of ordering for my store's beer department, should I get all the pumpkin beers or just most of them?

This is the best pumpkin beer I have had: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/700/7077/

Elysian is a great local Seattle brewery that has been getting better national distribution lately. The Night Owl is seasonal, early fall, and goes quick. Worth it if you can pick up a bottle. I haven't liked any other pumpkin beers I have tried.

I'm going to Portland/Corvallis next week and I just don't even know what to try. I'll have most of a day in Corvallis and maybe an evening in Portland. Any suggestions for either place? I won't have a car and my hotel in Portland is near the airport, and I understand there isn't much out in that part of town.

If you are downtown I highly recommend going to the Bridgeport Brewery as well, and probably the Lucky Lab. Solid Portland beers with tasty food and nice atmosphere. Henry's Tavern has an insanely huge tap list if you are looking for ultimate variety, but they are overpriced and the place can get filled up with d-bags pretty quick. Blitz and The Life of Riley generally have good tap lists and are accessible downtown. Lots more beer on the east side if you wanna go that way. Bus/bikes are super convenient in Portland.

So I am going up to Vancouver B.C. for a long sexy weekend with the lady, and I would love to sample a some of the local brews. Anyone have much experience with some Vancouver beers? I hear there is some good stuff from Granville Island, but other than that I know nothing about their beer scene.

Any goons out West know some good spots?

Same question, different long sexy weekend with a different lady in a different city: Montreal. Any recommendations?

Who would have thought Canada is such a sexy place? Wish I could help you.

I just got back from a vacation to Vancouver. It's not local, but buy Cantillon. It's all over the place there. As far as local beers go, I liked Whistler Brewery's grapefruit pale ale and Parallel 49's Seedspitter. Both are well made fruit beers.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I have heard of the grapefruit ale, and I am interested in trying. I am assuming the Seedspitter is a watermelon ale? If so can you compare to 21st Amendment's watermelon ale? It is the only watermelon context I really have.

It's a watermelon wheat ale. I've never had 21st Amendment's version so I can't compare. Seedspitter is drat tasty though, not too heavy on the watermelon flavor either which I think is a plus. I talked to the beer guy at the Brewery Creek liquor store (Highly recommend checking that place out, btw) and he told me the brewers used watermelon extract at first and thought that made it too sweet so then they tried just actual watermelon and that worked better. I don't know at what point they added it though I would think secondary fermentation.

Awesome, thanks again for the suggestions. You should try 21st Amendment's watermelon beer. It sounds similar in being light on the watermelon flavor, nice clean finish. Very easy to drink. Funny how those extracts can make flavors waaaay stronger than expected :psyduck:

Hopefully the hotel we are staying at will be near Granville island; seems to be some cool things happening there. Brew tour will go on the tentative schedule. I am pretty excited to see what they have to offer in general. Last time I was in Vancouver it was years ago, and I did not know what good beer tasted like. I knew I liked nicer things than Bud or Miller, but beyond that it was all "micro" to me.

Won't be making it up to Whistler unfortunately, due to taking the train up to B.C., but I will keep that brewery in mind for when the guys and I can finally get our poo poo together for an epic ski vacation. Some day... :allears:

How are Russian River and Firestone Walker breweries to visit?

My fiancee and I are going to honeymoon on the west coast in two weeks(Santa Barbara, San Fran, Napa, Portland, etc.) and these two breweries are right in our proposed travel route!

I've never had Pliny the Elder, so i'm super pumped to stop by RR for that alone, and am in love with pretty much all i've had from FW (Double Jack, Union Jack, Walker Reserve, Wookey Jack). Anything to try at either I wouldn't be able to get in Chicago?

What brewery should we visit in Portland (or in Gold Beach, OR)?

Any other breweries along the coast that are pretty much DONT MISS THIS? Unfortunately we won't be headed to San Diego or anywhere south of LA, so that scratches Green Flash and Stone off the list :(

Oregon Coast: Pelican Pub in Pacific City. Their beer is awesome and the pub is right up on the beach, great views.

Portland: Lompoc and Amnesia. Both are in the N/NE part of Portland (both are close to I-5, actually) and make superb beers. Amnesia makes some of the best, well-rounded IPAs in the city. The also have an giant patio for summer relaxation, burgers, and sausages. Lompoc has a Sidebar tasting room that is open weekends, which has some of their barrel-aged and other specialty beers on tap.
