We definitely want to keep fostering. Having Jasper and Wallace was amazing even though it made me realize I probably don't ever want to have two dogs full-time. We thought about continuing to foster them even but we just felt really uneasy around Jasper after that. He was such a sweet dog the entire rest of the time too. I had really high hopes for this rescue too, they seemed extremely put together compared to the rescue we used to work with 15 years ago.

Nah, sounds like a lovely rescue.
Even if it was your wife's fault.

Do you think it could've been her fault? I keep going back to it and it just seems so crazy. We took toys, bones, etc. out of his mouth no problem. He showed no signs of aggression or resource guarding at all. The only hint of it we saw was the boys would play really rough together, but even then it seemed like normal rough dog play (lots of breaks, both dogs choosing to re-engage, never fighting over food or toys.) I hope the people that have them now choose to adopt them because they seemed very nice and we also gave them the full story during the handoff. Who knows if the rescue is gonna tell potential adopters about it, I'm guessing probably not.

Pavlov and I are at the hotel, with a cross-country flight early tomorrow morning. He has no drat idea what's going on, or that we're never going to the old house again.

He looks ready to party

I saw a TikTok of a dog-friendly resort in Cancún and it kinda made me want my next dog to be airplane cabin sized so I can be that guy

Our old dog Stella was so chill about everything. She barely registered when we moved. She also adjusted super fast when we got her from her previous owners at age 2. Aside from dog reactivity it seemed like nothing bothered her. Wish I knew her secret lol

I heard that rabbits prefer yards with big dogs because they keep cats away.

Stella was scared of or possibly transfixed by rabbits, we'd always have them in our yard and if there was one out there at night for her last pee I would have to escort her to a separate part of the yard or she wouldn't go out.

So we never heard back from that rescue agency after my wife sent a followup just explaining what happened and attached some pics of her bite wounds. The dogs are still up on their socials which sucks to see but I think they're in a good foster situation at least and we gave the new fosters a heads up about what happened. Given that the rescue didn't tell the new fosters that one of the dogs bit my wife I'm definitely not comfortable fostering for them again anyway.

My wife has been really affected by the whole thing, she thinks the rescue thinks it was all our fault and we're terrible dog people and yadda yadda so she's just been really down. We got in touch with our vet to ask if they're involved with any rescues and they seemed so happy to hear from us and to hear that we want to foster so that was a big pick-me-up. I'm a bit nervous about bringing another big dog into the house after what happened but we've had so many come through and never had a problem like that before so I guess I'll just have to get back on the horse. I think my wife will leave me if I try to stand between her and having a dog in the house (and probably rightly so)

I've been in PA for a month now, and I've noticed something weird: while there's lots of dogs in the neighborhood, something like 90% of them, the owners aren't willing to let them say hello! It's always "oh, she's not good with dogs" or "he's not friendly" or "I dunno, he can be kind of weird". What's the deal? Pavlov's not getting as much socialization as he or I would like, and hell, I want to say hi to the dogs. :(

Just a thought but lots of Covid dogs were just not really socialized well because everyone was avoiding each other. Where I live everyone gave everyone else a real wide berth on the street for like 18 months so a lot of dogs who were born in that era never got a lot of leash greetings.

Our dog was generally just not too friendly on the leash and I never wanted to risk an incident. It's bad though because if I'm walking any dog now I still instinctively avoid other dogs and probably start giving off a vibe when I see them. I don't even know what it would be like to walk a dog friendly dog
