So I've only recently got a pc capable of running games more advanced than solitaire and I'm wondering should I get this now or wait for the full release? I'm chomping at the bit to play it, like.

60 bucks. Per month. Last month I accidentally went 2.5 gigs over that cap, so that month I paid $110.

Allegedly, work on NBN construction began in my area in April, so hopefully by next April I'll be surfing on speeds only slightly behind the rest of the civilised world. Until that time, I'll mooch off friends and relations during key moments when I'm at their houses.

I've been here for a couple of months and the place I didn't have so much as a phone line so I had to get in on mobile broadband. 10 bucks a gigabyte; not as bad as what you're paying but the speeds are crap.

There are advertisements on the busses here talking about how Romania has better internet than Australia. I don't doubt them.

You can download the backer beta now. Which is ~half the game and NOT save game transferable. It will reduce the download time on Friday though, I think, so you might as well download now and just wait until the full unlock. :)

Wasn't the beta a separate pledge? Otherwise, cool, just downloading it while waiting for the full release to drop.

It's the same SteamApp ID. The beta access just meant you would be provided the CD Key earlier (ie: months ago). I reckon inXile decided to start distributing the keys now, so technically you have access to the beta for a few days even if you didn't pledge for beta access.

Before anyone asks, it's not recommended to start playing (or even create characters that you hope to use in the release version) until the final version actually ships on Friday, as it could cause errors in your saved games or other unforeseen issues.

Just like with everything else in the US, broadband speeds and prices tend to vary a lot by region. You can get 100mbps service for expensive but not absurd prices across most of the Northeastern US, but good luck in most other parts of the country if you live outside of a city. Here's a map of advertisted speeds and actual speeds.

I'm kidding of course, you're in the land of horrible speeds and awful bandwidth caps. My condolences to you. If you have a laptop, you could go and install Steam on it, select just Wasteland 2 to install and then go sit at some Internet cafe for a while and leech off their bandwidth for a few hours. Repeat over the course of a couple days and you should be able to finally get the whole thing downloaded. Then copy the data files over to your home computer and tell Steam to check the files. Ta-da, you should be installed and ready for Wasteland 2 action.

:( Bandwidth caps suck.

I say a little prayer to God every morning that my ISP doesn't have a data cap. It's way too expensive for the the speed it provides, though, but small blessings and all that.

I'm sorry I can't hear you over the sound of Comcast charging 70-80USD a month for 40mbps speeds while telecomms bribe lobby politicians to pass laws that prohibit municipal ISPs from being created to compete or offer sane options. At least if I have a data cap with them I've never gone over it. :sigh:

As lovely as Google acts at times I hope they just decide one day "you know what, gently caress Comcast and Time Warner, they need to be destroyed" and ramps up google Fiber deployment rapidly so that it ends up in every major city within a decade.

This just reminds me, I pay an extra $6 (equivalent) for having a 100/100 line rather than 100/25. I have no idea what on earth I'd ever need that extra upstream speed for. That said, I think they should hurry up and upgrade our lines so I can switch to 1Gb instead of this slowpoke network.

Also, I have a strong suspicion that my ISP would get a bit annoyed if I used a home-user service to run a business. They'd want a much larger piece of the pie if it was commercial, and that would just ruin the point of trying work up a some small measure of smugness over the low price.

It's really only used for making sure people see your sweet 360 noscope shots in 1440p the minute you make them which is a not very big benefit but a rather welcome one

While in the US, we have trickles for upload speed and 4mbps upload is PREMIUM service

Does anyone who played the beta a ton have any recommendations for a decent party to use to run around and learn the game mechanics/quirks before the final release is out on Friday? It's kind of hard to tell which skills are important or more useful than others without having played the game already, and the (relatively) low attribute starting points are making me really doubt basically every choice. Every video I've found online seems to be either someone playing a version from a year ago or role-playing and inevitably making a party with bad stats who can't do anything.

Or should I just pick 4 of the pre-made guys and use them to get as far as possible to get a feel for what I should aim for when the game comes out for real?

Roll with the premades and dork around. Or wait two days and roll with the premade party there. Have fun! Play the game!

If you get blocked later on, no biggie, start up a new party now that you've played the game for a bit and adjust things to your liking. The premade party should work fine to get through the game even if they aren't min-maxed.
