I think that place sold used video games too, unless this was a totally different store in the Freehold Raceway Mall. I just remember they let me play the games before I actually paid for them, which was cool.

I think you're thinking of Funcoland. Man, that store was awesome. I got a Sega Saturn with all of the trimmings and a couple of games for under $40!

I mean the downside was that I owned a Sega Saturn, but still.

No, it's not that either. It's not a generic building toy, the parts are clearly supposed to be arms/legs/hands/whatever, you can just combine them in a bunch of different ways.

Was it the lego run with the tall lanky dudes in, I think, purple and one in some sort of turquoise? Lots of holes in the construction beams? Came with the bitchin' rad lego canon that shot a rounded rubber tipped projectile at little machine scorpion dudes with targets on their tails?

Hell, even if it isn't, can someone find out what that was? I tried Knex and technic in addition to the mentioned ones and I still couldn't find it.

Lego has a line that sounds like that now called Bionicles. I think they also did a similar, more humanoid looking thing in the late 90s/early 00 called Galidor that you might be thinking of.

Dead on. I saw technic during my little search around, but the preliminary pictures only listed the realistic builds like trucks and machines.

So many good memories of launching that little rubber missile at people, losing it for a few months, only to find it, shoot it, and lose it again.

Nope, it wasn't Lego of any kind. Lego was always my number one toy (still is actually) and what I'm trying to find definitely isn't Lego. It's bugging me so much and I just can't find anything. It must have been a lot more obscure than I thought.

I know exactly the ones you're talking about - they weren't like lego etc and made out of bricks but out of whole modular components you could put together to make different space vehicles. They had little transparent canopies on the cockpits and there was definitely a drill tank type thing. I have the impression that they weren't based off any show or made by one particular brand and they were fairly cheap. You'd buy a blister pack with a bunch of different bits in it.

I was never able to finish that game. I always got to the last mission where you have to fly about in a helicopter and launch pizzas at the Brickster to slow him down and dougnuts at the police to speed them up, but I could never beat it.

Nah, I spent quite a while trying to find them cause I was curious too. Google found nothing - found those by searching ebay for "90s space toy". If you look closely one of them has "mac" written on it which may have been the brand.

Holy poo poo. This thread. Looking back at the Mighty Max posts reminded me of all the miniature type toys they had back then. Took me back to Monster in my Pocket, Z-bots, and, from what I can recall, the little known Trash Bag Bunch. These figures came in a dissolvable "trash bag" so you never knew which figure you were going to get. Drop em in the water and watch it fizz and bubble as you waited in anticipation of who you'd get next. Gotta love random toys.

There is a British company that has basically brought these back. I mean it's not the same sculpts or anything but it's clearly inspired by them heavily. They are called Toxic Mutants and come in a barrel of slime.

I would dig a book of all those old 80's/90's arcade flyers. They was some of the best, cheesiest things ever. What made them weirder is, and please correct me if I'm wrong, most of them weren't really made to advertise to kids but to arcade owners which makes the cheesy set up even funnier.

Arcades might be the thing I missed the most from the 90's. Yes the 80's were when arcades might have been the biggest in terms of pop culture, but I still remember going to the mall with 5 bucks in quarters and playing Area 51
