What a tremendous heckler slapdown in "Balls."

Goodness no, now that wouldn't do at all!

Oh my god, Greg reverse-slamming his sponsors (mainly Gamefly) in Parks is killing me. The sarcasm dripping off of his voice during "The Man-grate's gone..." was the best.

I don't know why he gave the Man-Grate so much shade. It seemed fairly innocuous, it was American made at least.

I thought it was the two or three vodkas he'd had before each placement. Once you start calling the waitress "pumpkin butter," you're not going to hold back on the ManGrate.

I like it that he goes on it's fun following his train of thought. I would like to know what episode does John DiMaggio do the impromptu audible shoutout. I chuckle everytime he does his impersonation of it.

That would be McDonalds, which is titled that because he sounds like Michael McDonald when he does it.

I can say that from my perspective, I follow like...a dozen podcasts, and longer episodes keep me from the other shows in my backlog, especially now that EVERYONE releases 2-3x a week.

I have a mountain of other podcasts to listen to, and I usually listen to them on my phone so if I'm the middle of one and decide to save it for later and listen to something else, it's often tough to get back to the correct spot. This problem isn't just one I have with Smartest Man, all the long podcasts I listen to have this issue.

Yeah. I legitimately had to accept the fact that I am not going to hear everything before I die. If the show wears you out, stop - you've gotten your serving of enjoyment from that episode. Maybe you miss a great joke at 1:55, but life goes on.

If you have an issue regarding losing your spot, get pocketcasts, literally the best podcast app out there. It saves all of your last played locations among a slew of other things. If you mean you have a hard time getting back to the correct spot mentally, then I guess I could see that being an issue if you just cannot help but listen to another podcast while in the middle of another. Get Pocketcasts though, for real.

I think the whole legitimate rape situation and him being an incredibly vocal feminist set him off. Also the whole raspberry dawns days the show was still pretty infrequent so I don't think he felt as obligated.

Actual quote from a producer of the movie, on why he liked this pitch:

"And the second reason was -- during the years that I spent running Walt Disney Studios -- I learned about how hard it was to find a fairy tale with a good strong male protagonist. You've got your Sleeping Beauties, your Cinderellas and your Alices. But a fairy tale with a male protagonist is very hard to come by. But with the origin story of the Wizard of Oz, here was a fairy tale story with a natural male protagonist. Which is why I knew that this was an idea for a movie that was genuinely worth pursuing."

Earlier on, the podcast lived up to its title. Proops was imparting knowledge. I loved the occasional roman history stuff. I don't listen to his podcasts in their entirety any more. They're too long to be as bitter as they've become.

That said, see him live if you can. The shows seem to have a different tone when you're there in person.

Yeah, that's what I was tryin to get at. Greg never just talks about negro leagues baseball or ancient Egypt or anything anymore, it's always how Obama sucks, big business sucks, corporations suck...

I think OWS being jackbooted to death did a number on Greg.

Email him with your feelings, let him know you miss Egypt or baseball. Ask him about his current political bent. He usually responds, as he says on most episodes. It is worth a try at least.

I've been listening since summer and agree with the bitterness, but the last few episodes seem to have him coming out of it. It also seems like the audiences were more receptive to what he had to say, resulting in longer tangents about negro league baseball or movies.
