They opened a new casino in Cleveland and I am killing the 2/5 table I just now got a hotel room across the street and Im gonna sleep for a few hours then head to a BBQ. Is it the one in the old Higbee building, down at Tower City? I may have to take a trip back for some visiting and to check out the games before all the novelty wears off and the games slow down. It's amazing, I left Cleveland just over a year ago to move back to Vegas, and now I'm thinking of flying from Vegas to Cleveland for gambling.

jase1 posted:Yeah it is in the old Higbee building. That is phase 1 they are building a stand alone one that will open sometime in 2014 with a hotel and more things to do. I am really impressed its worth it to just check it out at least once. Yeah, I am going to have to check that out. My very first apartment was at 21st and Prospect. I wish they'd have had poker, then. Animal-Mother posted:Is a big ego practically a requirement for somebody to become a gambler? You say you've got one, you say hustling often depends on needling the other guy's ego. With only a few exceptions, all of the big winning gamblers (poker and pool, specifically) I know have big egos. The best of them are able to put their egos aside while playing. Without any exceptions, the worst fish and suckers I've ever known had huge egos and simply could not set them aside.

Phil is learning to keep himself under better control than he used to, but he still riles pretty easily. My team streamed the Big One for One-Drop $1,000,000 buy-in event live on the internet a couple of weeks ago. Phil had a few funny near-misses, but he never went totally nuclear. I kept whispering into my mike, "Hellmuth's picking up a head of steam, get a camera on him," but it didn't paid off.

jase1 posted:Hiphop who is my bookie and the guy who got hustled at darts, his girlfriends birthday happens to fall on Thanksgiving this year so he decided to have a party at Fox and hound our usual spot. Parma or Mayfield Heights? I've spent a lot of time shooting pool and singing karaoke at both, and your stories are more fun for me when I can picture the actual venue. What side of town do you live on?

jase1 posted:It was at the Parma one. You know the 2 tables right by the door you go out to smoke? It was that table right there. I am always at the Fox and Hound it's my spot. I go there so much that most of the waitresses know me by name now. Best tables in Parma, great food and great staff. On Thanksgiving eve the middle floor where the T.V.'s and bar had all the tables cleared out and it was just packed with people, such a crazy night. I live in the Brunswick area which is a suburb of Cleveland for the other people who don't know our area. Ah, cool. I lived in Parma for years, right at the top of the hill on State Road, where West Ridgewood crosses it. Although I am not a Cleveland native, I did a lot of my growing up, there, and it feels like home, to me. I like hearing stories about the area. I live in Vegas, but all the stories (from you and from others) I keep hearing about the Cleveland Horseshoe are making me feel like I should go back to Cleveland for the gambling action. I think you might have already said, but what cue(s) do you own and shoot with when not hustling with house cues? How do you feel about Cuetec? I like them a lot for a low-to-mid-price cue.

jase1 posted:Nicky and Dave wanted to tag along at dinner so we took them to this bar that is run by a guy from Cleveland. I go there every time I am in town and the guy always sits down and talks with anyone who says they are from Cleveland and he gives them free dessert. Which bar is this? My first thought was KJs, but that's nowhere near where anyone just visiting is likely to end up. Tell me where to go to score from free dessert and talk a little Cleveland. Keep the stories coming.

fps_bill posted:I was playing in a bar lastnight and some old dude was telling me that the 4 and 9 balls are heavier than any other ball on the table and that if you put them behind the 8 the 8 will not move on the break unless whoever a breaking knows just how to hit them. Any truth to this? None, whatsoever, at least in the USA*. The Billiard Congress of America specifies 5.5-6oz per ball, so there is leeway, but that's allowed for any ball. It is not standard practice to make the 4 and 9 heavier than the other balls. * I really doubt it's true anywhere else, either.
