What can I say, I didn't realize it was a manga, and I find the anime boring. Is there any site that lists the series in a magazine? MAL says it's in Morning KC but it only lists 4 completely unknown series besides it.

Wikipedia has a couple more series listed, though the English wiki doesn't list every series, compared to the Japanese wiki anyways.

I thought this last episode was pretty awesome. Mutta has a lot more skills than I imagined. I think he has a good chance still.

Benching an "impressive!" number of reps didn't make any sense to me either but I successfully ignored it in the name of ~anime~. I got what they were getting at.

I feel an odd trichotomy(?) when watching this show. Half the time it's like watching a JAXA/NASA commercial, half the time it's this really corny comedy/drama, and half the time it's just fantastic.

Its to find the persons constant strength/endurance instead of the explosive strength of a single rep. The NFL does the same thing, but with 225 pounds.

Lots of little touches I loved about episode seven, like the way they used a little Jetsons-y comic in the paper and the anchor for the "Texas News" being dressed like a cartoon cowboy. Also the way Mutta's frustrating was characterized, and the way it was effecting Hibito. And the Ozzy polo shirt that Hibito's neighbor was wearing. This show's just straight up subtle in every aspect that doesn't involve spaaaaaace or fire extinguisher-equipped criminals

This show's just straight up subtle in every aspect that doesn't involve spaaaaaace or fire extinguisher-equipped criminals I laughed when the cartoon cowboy news anchor showed up. As for the old guy's Ozzy shirt, he was wearing the same thing the first time they introduced that character and I laughed then too. What I really liked was the old man's implication that he was going to take Mutta to the casino to count cards. I agree that the fire extinguisher man plot-line is pretty forced though. Eh, I liked it likely they're pulling in the training thing from earlier where he'll have memorized all of the positions inside the Cafe and navigate to the criminal and take him out, a little contrived maybe sure but it's still a nice happy feeling.

It's a little strange that the news here in Texas is accurately depicted, yet someone goes on a crime spree for days and no one shoots him. Which is it, Japan, are we cowboys or not? Mutta highlights some glaring flaws in the astronaut selection process. cooldude2.0 fucked around with this message at 07:10 on May 14, 2012 |

Yeah, as a Texas native, I'm curious as to how the Fire Extinguisher Bandito wasn't instantly pumped full of holes by the dozen or so armed citizens walking the streets at any given moment the minute he decided to start his crime spree. The cowboy announcer for TEXAS NEWS, on the other hand, just made me giggle.

Fast forward to the end of the series, Mutta and Hibito(?) have not only realized their dreams of becoming Astronauts but inspired the world to unite behind a bold new plan of space exploration. Space resources have raised the standards of living for the whole of mankind, new space-born colonies alleviated the Earth's overpopulation problems and most recently humanity has opened peaceful dialogue an intelligent species other than themselves. Mutta, old and graying at this point, retires and begins to write his memoirs. The first line reads: I did it all for the fly American honeys.

nielsm posted:I really wish they would give just a little extra blurb about the weekly space-photos. I would love to hear what's going on in them. They actually have some on the official site, but it's (obviously) all in Japanese. I can try translating a few of them, but my space-related vocabulary is severely lacking, so I may make some mistakes. Feel free to correct me. The title for episode 6's picture is "Public relations are also an important part of being an astronaut", and the accompanying text: "A press conference about what kind of work will be or has been done in space. I wanted to express our excitement about flying a mission to the ISS soon, but I'm a little nervous!" For episode 7, "The last meeting before launch". "This is a shot from one of the Q&A sessions held at <name kanji I can't read; 筑波> Space Center. I was surprised by the questions that everyone was asking, especially those from the kids. Perhaps some of them will one day become my co-workers? Until then, I'll be working!" (unsure on the last sentence; it used a word I don't know, 現役) Episode 8, "A photograph of the sun emerging from an eclipse". "Tomorrow, May 21st, in Japan for the first time in 25 years - near Tokyo for the first time in 173 years - we may be able to see a solar eclipse! According to calculations, 2/3rds of Japan's population will be able to see the eclipse. Don't miss the sun turning into a faint ring around the moon!" I can't properly translate the rest of the message, but it says stuff about a partial eclipse, January 4th of last year, wanting to go to space, and a shadow 680km wide, so maybe the author is talking about how he observed the Earth during a partial solar eclipse from space. I've never really thought about it before, but looking at the Earth from orbit during an eclipse would be really cool. No idea from whose point of view these are being written, though. Seems like some astronaut. Morgenthau posted:That was the only sugee-worthy picture they've shown so far. Yeah, I was kind of expecting a bunch of awesome pictures of the Earth and ISS, though these are pretty cool in their own way.
