Well, thanks to the thread, I've just downloaded Mtpaint, here's to hoping I'll use that instead of MSpaint in the future. :toot:

Anyhow, I've been working a bit on my first sprite project, the entire class is working on a game, and I'm one of the artists on it.

I'm really having a lot of fun with it now, especially since I'm slowly getting the hang of animating characters now.

e: too bad I'm having a hell of a time trying to adjust to Graphicgale or mtpaint, tho'

I mean, how do you turn a PNG into a font file?

I've been using Yoster Island for tooltips; it looks nice, but only has the basic alphanumerics, and I'd like to add onto it.

I used this for a tiny project a while ago, worked pretty well, since it doesn't take too long to re-draw the existing characters before adding more.

e: I dunno if it lets you just turn a PNG into a font, but it'll let you make fonts from scratch with a pretty easy editor, and it exports them without issue.

This looks helpful, thanks... how do you use the Data Import button? Their help section doesn't explain its use, only that it exists.

Messing around a bit, it looks like the Data import/export button just straight up lets you import/export the font as plaintext.

I'm not entirely sure I see the point in it, other than possibly sharing an unfinished font with someone for help making it or something.

So apparently you can add additional characters using the little "i" button at the bottom?

Looks like I know what I'm doing today. Thanks for sharing this.

The i button seems to be mostly for setting for the font, like name and author / Metadata stuff + what base font you want to use in the Editor, though?

There are some small arrows to the top-right of the Map, right under Help, that'll let you go to the other pages of symbols, so there are quite a few. Dunno if you can expand beyond that, however.

Sounds like you add up to 90 characters which havent already been included

e: Progress!

That is a very, very pretty font. :allears:
Feels like it'd be right at home in a fairy tale book or something like that.

lol Probably not. Is there an easy way to check this? I'm having a hell of a time figuring out color palettes, tbh.

You could give this a spin: lets you upload an image and then flick through a couple common types.

As for palettes, lospec has a bunch of them if you want some either as reference, or to experiment with.

There's a cute little pixel-arty thing going on over in GBS: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3961070 "I resurrected the pixel drawing site."

Draw some butts and stuff here and post it: https://majoroutput.com

Everything was Flash and old and didn't work anymore, so with the little spare time I have I remade the image editor. Hopefully I'll be able to make a place to view the older stuff soon.

Here's a big-o-block of awesome from 2008:

I still can't believe what people were able to make in a 20x20 pixel canvas with a 40 color palette. Waking up to see what people made every morning was like Christmas to me.

It's a fun little thing where you only have 20x20 px and a 40 color palette.
He's musing about maybe making it 32x32@256 colors. But either way it's a fun little thing to doodle in for a few min.
