Thanks for the heads up. It seems the forum is screwing with url formatting. It's stripping the question mark off the end of the url for some reason. Since I can't seem to make it work, I've put the full url there and you have to add the ? to the end manually to make it work.

Speaking of creative resources... what do we think about sharing vendors for creative professionals? Real world example: my studio is currently looking for a good, reliable printer in the UK but we're US based so the search is kinda tricky. I'd love to have a place to pose this type of question w/o starting a new thread. (Also, if you're a UK goon with a recommendation, please let me know! Kinda time sensitive.) e: Oh man I can't believe someone hasn't suggested The Noun Project. Incredibly valuable resource for when you need a free, open source, CC-licensed icon of pretty much anything in the entire world. This would fall under Design Resources I believe. e2: PS. I was the person in the last thread who suggested MooTools (Design Resources again)... that should probably be replaced with jQuery as it's pretty much the standard javascript library these days. http://videoblocks.com Amazing web site if you're doing a lot of video work. For a flat $70/month - the cost of one clip at Shutterstock - you get access to a HUGE library of stock footage and After Effects templates. Most of it is quite good, it's well organized, and they keep adding more.

I concur that Write or Die for writers is worth the investment. Setting a time limit and wordcount goal, then disabling delete and saving (until the goal is met) has helped me get past the urge to be all Kubrick-detailed about my scenes and sentences. 2000 words per hour seems like a healthy, doable speed. edit: sorry sorry sorry, I should have brought a resource instead of endorsed a product.

Is there a good website or book with a study regimen for learning to draw/sketch? I want to eventually get into some painting but obviously need other chops first. I know you can just basically say " DRAW DRAW DRAW" but I need something structured along the lines of "ok today we work on this type of shading draw the following" with examples and tips on technique.

May I request a reference, please? I like to draw people and characters, but I don't know of any collection or archive of various faces. Posemaniacs.com is great for getting poses but they all have the same face, and this has been a bit of a crutch to me. Googling "face references" or anything of the sort feels wrong and like I'd just get awkward results and stuff that isn't free to use as reference anyway. Would anyone kindly point me in the direction of a resource that fits this description please?

SA members can post their books, promote their books, and have an author blog hosted at the site. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3509534 is our thread, which has a lot more info. Books and authors are very well organized in a listing that auto-updates every time a book is posted. We'd like to do writing contests in the future, once the site gets more traffic. Also available are goon services, such as editorial and illustration. The services section hopefully will grow; the books listed are about 50 so far.

Science fiction writing resources. Project Rho. Despite its archaic appearance it is an amazing resource, especially for those interested in space-opera. The Atomic Rockets section in particular is an absolute gold-mine. RTalsorian Games has interesting articles regarding cyberpunk. C-ship: Relativistic ray traced images. Knowing a little about special relativism goes a long way for stories that include STL star-ships travelling at relativistic speeds. The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction contains information regarding most sf works predating 1995. Tabletop RP Game books should not be excluded from research and some have tools for building worlds. Mega Traveller World Builder gets elbows deep in randomly generated civilizations and planetary systems. The Uplift module for GURPS has a section dedicated to randomly generating alien species. Science fiction themed game books are often ripe with ideas for the picking. The more ideas you can put in your head, the more story seeds and themes for your writing. Maybe one day we can all move beyond the post-apocalyptic earth setting. Weapons: A Pictorial History. Great for time travel, low-tech meets high-tech encounters, technological regression scenarios. If you get this book keep an eye out for a 'spring-gun for discouraging poachers'. In fact, all non-fiction written by Edwin Tunis are great resources for the scenarios described above.
