I cannot explain why The Rock makes any generic blockbusterish movie instantly watchable for me. I would have had no interest in watching The Rundown, Fast Five, or this if it weren't for him. Thank God he's come back from his family movie purgatory and is now making action movies.

On another note, I really hope they explain why they need fence melting gloves instead of bolt cutters.

Lord of the Rings films.

The Lux Aeterna arrangement done for the Two Towers was great. I think it was called Requiem For the Ring, but I don't know if that was official or what. Still a great song that made that trailer really stick out in my mind.

To answer an earlier question, the most prominent use of an E.S. Posthumus song I can think of is from the Spider-man 1 trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN3YaybNJ2s. I don't hear it much nowadays, but I do remember it being used often. Another one that I don't hear much nowadays but heard everywhere was Craig Armstrong's Escape (from the soundtrack of Plunkett and Macleane). The trailer that sticks out for that song is for The Musketeer (god this trailer seemed so badass when I first saw it at a young, impressionable age): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvBmkpvDQp4.

Along with Lux Aeterna, I think a lot of trailers use the theme from Sunshine often too. I sadly can't remember any trailer that uses it off the top of my head, but I do remember thinking it sort of came out of nowhere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQXVzg2PiZw. I think John Murphy's In the House, In A Heartbeat from 28 Days Later is also used pretty often, but again I can't remember a trailer off the top of my head.

I have to agree with the give away a lot part, but at the same time, I wasn't actually surprised by anything that was "revealed." All the story notes seemed like they were to be expected, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how it ends up there. For some reason, the trailer reminded me of the trailer to Unbreakable (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_f1uCWKZQs), which has absolutely nothing but premise, which I think is more intriguing than the helping of plot that we got.

Also, this sort of explains John Goodman going through some stuff on Community.

Now that Arnold is apparently making movies again, what would it take to get a fun action movie with him, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson? And oh man this would mean more Arnold commentary on his movies. The man spins magic with words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSqnFxVaIx4

The book is an oral history told in the style of a Studs Terkel book. That is, it is a series of interviews with people who lived through the war in different capacities, like someone who was profiting off anti-zombie drugs, various military personnel, and some otaku that I hope was just some sort of random satire in the middle of the book. The book was pretty much notable precisely because of its format.

This is just generic zombie action movie starring Brad Pitt somehow.

The only thing that has anything to do with anything is that in the original story Hansel and Gretel went to a witch's house and almost got eaten. And that Hansel and Gretel are two names that people recognize.

It's also what the comic Fables did with Hansel, except he became more of a witch inquisitor instead of a witch hunter. And Gretel did not really go that route.

Really, though, for a concept as simple as "people fighting supernatural monsters in a medievalish age," why does Hollywood keep loving it up? Brothers Grimm, Van Helsing, and now Hansel and Gretel. Even the recent Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro seems to have been mostly forgotten, so much so that I can't even remember whether that was actually the name of the movie. I'm trying to actually think of a movie in this "genre" that doesn't suck, and the only thing I can think of is Brotherhood of the Wolf.

It'll certainly be interesting if they really do just have two people in the entire movie.

I don't know if it was a flashback or something to what happened to Earth, but there were people fleeing from the ships opening fire on them.

I think the problem with the trailer that I have is that all we have is a setting. I couldn't really tell what the plot was about or anything. I don't mean that I want the entire plot spoiled, but all I have is Jaden exploring a planet and Will either stuck in the ship (?) or going out to find him? Maybe I just watched it too early in the morning, but nothing in the trailer really excited me. The Oblivion trailer at least had hints of things happening, even though it didn't spell out, say, who Morgan Freeman was or what his role was in the film. However, what the Oblivion trailer lacked was more shots of Tom Cruise running.

Now that I think about it, is this another Deep Impact/Armageddon thing again, when two studios release competing movies in a close timeframe with superficially similar elements even though they probably have nothing else in common?

I thought that the big superhero movie explosions kind of ruined the Man of Steel trailer, to be honest. Not ruined, maybe, but at least disappointed me a bit. A movie about Clark Kent's internal struggles about becoming Superman without the distraction of a supervillain plot and all its accompanying disasters would be a lot more interesting to me. The trailer seems to be mostly this, but then you have the blockbuster disasters and I just kinda think that's a shame.

Looks really good, though, although I don't know how much of that is just a psychological effect of feeling like a Malick movie.

I hope they retcon it by showing Han get his hands on a Delorean, and Justin Lin gets to direct the next Back to the Future. I mean, I would settle for a Tokyo Drift sidestory showing what the hell Han was up to (and his inevitable escape) when the main doofus in Tokyo Drift does his thing.
