I remember that I used to gave a Geocities site called geocities.com/ihatetifa. I was completely insane about how VII is the best game ever, and Tifa ruined it, and I don't even know but for some reason, I really hated her. I remember seeing a lot of goatse. However, despite my passion for the game, I managed to completely forget about the game/avoid all the fandom that came out after 1998, and never even heard about the other games/movies/whatever. Thankfully, due to avoiding all that, VII is still my favorite game. I think it's amazing, and the story is amazing. The music is so good that I imported it from Japan many, many, many years ago and blast it in my car regularly (Jenova's Theme ). The only part I hate is having to level up at the end of the game in order to have a chance at killing Sephiroth. I distinctly remember spending a month getting my characters up to level 99 so that I could one-shot him.

Mak0rz posted:If I remember right, Sephiroth's HP is scaled to your level. I had about the same amount of trouble killing him at level 56 as I did at level 86. Apparently he becomes ridiculously tough to kill once all of your dudes are at level 99. I'm thought they only introduced HP scaling in 8, because all the monsters in 7 have a set HP that doesn't change. Sephiroth's HP isn't in the strategy guide, though, so perhaps he was an exception. In any case, I was also leveling my Knights of the Round and Mime materia to level 2 so I just had to summon it once and then hit mime to kill him, no effort or actual fighting needed. fake edit: I just looked it up, and it looks like his HP DOES scale. gently caress. I spent a month grinding for nothing. gently caress you, strategy guide. Why didn't you mention this? As far as stupid character design, Zell annoys me way too much. Just look at how loving dumb his pants look. What the hell is wrong with them? It's like he has huge puffy cylinders on his legs. And why are they so high up on his body? I know some of this is because of the hardware limitations of the time, but even the way he moves annoys me. Look how dumb he looks bouncing back and forth during a fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPEo22inbK4 It's like they were trying to make him as obnoxious as possible.

Mak0rz posted:It's done. The original NES Final Fantasy is now behind me. The ending dialogue was weird as hell. It just repeated the same three slides of text over and over again, except worded differently. Though, I do miss the good old days when video games congratulated you for beating them I'm just going to look at this image every time I finish a game Epi Lepi posted:Yeah, you could pretty much find people who looked like that in real life without even trying too hard back in the day. You probably wouldn't like those people but then, who can say they really like Zell's personality? I found a sickening number of fan art of him naked and people dressing up as him (some naked) when I was searching for that image, so unfortunately, there are people that like him. Quite a lot. I was going to mention that Hope from 13 is kind of similar to him in terms of looks, and went to look for a picture, and then I saw the same type of fanart, and I don't want to play anymore. What in the gently caress is wrong with these people? He's a kid for gently caress's sake. Ugh, I'm done looking up characters.

Ugh, when did Sephiroth become a lame emo goth Gackt lookalike? This is so stupid. I never watched anything about FF7 since `97, and he apparently turns into some stereotypical anime whatever-the-poo poo, not resembling his personality or character at all. I remember him as this: Yes, he was evil, but he became so because he found out his mother was a test subject and so was he, and he wasn't even a real human being . He wasn't some fanboy's sexy grey-haired emo dude. He was a normal guy that went insane, he was messed up by Mako, he was messed up by the company. He shouldn't look so pretty and so emo like a myspace picture. I'm so angry at all the new poo poo Square/Enix/poo poo has come up with since the 90s. On the other hand, seeing this at the flagship store in Tokyo was pretty amazing, though they actually did stay pretty true to the original game in terms of making this, unlike the other poo poo turned him into.

NikkolasKing posted:Hey, that poo poo had the best version of One-Winged Angel. Sure it was like seven years later but the song finally lived up to the hype. I even thought the new lyrics were better. Was this made by Malice Mizer? I was actually super into them in high school (and somehow had no loving clue that Gackt was in FF), and this song sounds like they made it. (side note: Despite being a ff7 sperglord, I somehow never got into anime and became a normal, functioning human being, for the most part. My best friend and I are still shocked at this ) Anyways, including Gackt into the game because he was the most popular thing in Japan at the time and had naked billboards of himself all over the place just shows how little (i.e. at all) Square cared about the game. Oh hey, this guy gets a poo poo ton of popularity and money, let's exploit that! I actually bought Dirge of Cerebus at the local gaming convention a few years ago after reading about it in an LP thread, but never actually played it because I learned all I needed to know from that thread.. Edit: ImpAtom posted:Eh. The Gackt thing is dumb but considering that we're at a point where actors appearing almost unchanged as supporting roles in game is actually a "thing", the only odd part is that it's a Japanese dude in a Japanese RPG and not Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man or whatever. Um, you don't quite understand. You see, THIS was a billboard in Japan. Like, on the major streets. In front of everyone. Naked. With airbrushed balls. Ugh, Square, what the gently caress? I meant that it was lovely for them to include him solely for the reason that he was so popular in Japan at the time. It would be like including Britney Spears or Lady Gaga in the next Call of Duty game.

Spiritus Nox posted:Have you seen who they've got advertising the next COD? Yeah, that was a lovely example, it was the first very popular game with a large following that came to my head. Ok, for a better example, Lady Gaga is the main antagonist in Max Payne 4. She wears sexy, revealing, crazy clothes like she does on stage and sings in every other scene. She doesn't have anything to do with the story, but Rockstar really wanted to exploit her popularity.

Because I was just playing it 20 minutes ago from the beginning and I really don't understand how that's possible without killing yourself.

Caros posted:Did some random calculations, but you're looking at a little bit over 110,000 enemies killed. With between 1-3 enemies per battle you're probably looking around 50,000 battles. Even assuming no load times you probably aren't going to get more than 3 battles a minute, and there is no way you're going to be doing this 'optimally' while paying attention. If you assume 3 battles a minute you're going about 277 hours. Drop that down to 2 a minute and you're over 400. Throw in saving on the off chance that the playstation fucks up/anything else... I'd say 500 is a pretty solid number. THE AWESOME GHOST posted:In middle school a lot of my friends were totally obsessed with FF7 and did stuff like learning all of cloud's limit breaks before leaving Midgar, or learning all of Aeris' limit breaks so they could see the last one before she died. There was a LOT of grinding on hell houses in the slums. I kind of hate myself that cloud is at limit level 3 and I'm not even at Junon, but at the same time I'm just holding down O while doing other real life stuff.

Though I'm not denying the existence of Japanese neck beards who sit at home all day because obviously I wouldn't meet them. Like that world masturbation champion. And I guess seeing a guy in full business suit with briefcase coming in after work to look at anime vagina pillows is interesting to me but do I know.
