It's misspelled due to a lot of the posts in TVIV were made as soon as something HOLY gently caress has happened. They don't have time to check their spelling.

:synpa: this is related. Why is "synpa" the trigger for this emoticon?

The shape of the chair and the blood smear in the second one makes it look like a Game of Thrones reference (the blood smear referring to the show's extreme level of violence), though the emote title ("asoiaf") is the acronym for the similar fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire. That could be intentionally misleading, though.

Seems simple enough. The 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books were adapted into the 'Game of Thrones' TV series.

Yeah, it's this. The series is somewhat (in)famous for its frequent and often unexpected plot-twists. The blood stems from the fact that the titular throne is a jagged metal one made out of melted-down swords:

The :todd: smiley comes from when SA cartoonist Shmorky found out that "artist" Todd Goldman had stolen a drawing of his and was selling it, the cat in the emote is the drawing. Wikipedia has the details.

It's Kadabra, I think, a pokemon that hypnotizes people. The pyramid, dollar sign, and the fact that it's named lron makes me think it's related to Scientology.

Since I've seen some confusion about it before, :dealwithit: came from one of my Let's Plays of a terrible terrible game named Hard Time, in this update. For it, and the game I spent most of the time playing (The Making of a Prophet), I used a face mod to put in a look of extreme contempt from the X-Men character Apocalypse, because it ended up looking really funny and I was inspired by another Let's Play of one of MDickie's other games.

Hard Time is about being a prisoner, and the resolution of committing crimes is screwy at best. It culminated in me getting away with blowing off a warden's arm with a machine gun, and the judge telling the warden to deal with it. The thread, understandably, flipped their poo poo, and I was made an avatar of my ridiculous-looking character:

"Just try to deal with it next time..."

Eventually the thread wanted a :dealwithit: emoticon and, after a few revisions, they bought one for me, and it sort of exploded in popularity over time until people were using it who'd never seen my thread or knew who the goofy little face was.

Also, this is a bit of a stretch, but I sort of think I inadvertently helped create the whole Deal With It meme, because this was shortly before it really took off, and the first real major version was an edit of another SA emoticon, :smugdog:.

I guess it's possible that someone posted it in an ME thread and then someone else posted it in the GBS thread before it got bought as a smiley (I remember when I saw it it was an image from imgur, not a smiley), but everyone in the thread who commented on it hadn't seen it before, so I figured someone in one of the ME threads saw it, noticed a resemblance to Shepard and bought it as shepface.

I hope someone has a link to the thread either way, though, I really wish I could remember which one it was.
