As Google transitions to Chat from Hangouts, it's discontinuing support for third-party chat apps like Pidgin--which I've been clinging hard to pretty much only because of its support for custom SA smilies. Technology and modding and poo poo has come a long way since that resource hit, though; is there a way to incorporate our smilies into some kind of custom emoji keyboard for Windows or Android? (I think there's one for iOS.) Hell, I'll make sure the people I use smilies with have the same software on their end so nothing gets tofu'd. Not being able to garnish my messages with a choice smartass smiley will suck.

Discord has custom emoji support and most SA subforum related discords have at least some of the favourites.

I keep adding to every new work slack. It's very useful. is less so because it doesn't scale well

Yeah, you gotta really game some of them. For I made it a simple 2x2 square with the top letters being the pink "S A" and the bottom letters the yellow "M E"

Yeah, it's just my immediate family--folks, husband, kid--so Discord or Slack feels like overkill, especially if we don't use them for anything else. Oh, well. Thanks for the suggestions!

If I remember correctly somebody wanted to get something that didn't fit in the size requirements and an admin told them to just buy something and they'd upload the one they actually wanted, so we got the black rectangle.

What's the story behind ? I always thought it was a little mischievous devil face, until I saw folks using it with cute animal pics and looked up its name. Is it someone's pet or something?

I miss some of the popup sentences on them, but my brain is too dumb to remember most of the actual smiley names so I like having all the newer keyword tags that replaced them.

Turns out I have a backup of the smilies page from about a month before the tag system was implemented if anyone wants to see what the text would have been for some of the more recent smilies https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QQ9rbRiP6G7qwds5eMBKHoIgVKpm1Y5e/view?usp=sharing The preview doesn't display correctly but the page looks normal when it's downloaded zetamind2000 has a new favorite as of 13:48 on Jul 19, 2022 |

Looks like I forgot to set the file to share, it's fixed now Archive.org has a version of the page from a few months before my backup if anyone wants to see it directly https://web.archive.org/web/20200324232520/https://forums.somethingawful.com/misc.php?action=showsmilies It's a little incomplete but it's basically the best version still online
