Thanks for this thread. I'm always interested in some Roman history. I'd have to ask about the Roman perspective on the occult. I remember Pliny the Elder (who was also a pal of Vespasianus) being dismissive of it, and generally in the legends and myths, there was a contrast between the "divine" magic (theios aner) and the magic tricks that were almost always evil. I'd like to know more about Roman alchemists, occultists, etc.
