Speaking of The Thing, I don't know if it was supposed to be subtle as I didn't catch it the first time watching it (which may mean I'm just ), but when the crew went out to visit Wilford Brimley in his little shed he had a noose hanging in the background and kept going "I'm okay now." At first glance it sounds like Brimley was totally over being suicidal and wants to survive like the rest. The scene is actually broadcasting the fact that he has already died and been assimilated, hence his no longer needing a noose, and he wants to join the rest because he wants to kill all of them.
