In Master and Commander there's a shot of Stephen clenching and flexing his hand before he starts to play the cello. It's only meaningful after you’ve read the books and know this is becausehe was captured while spying and tortured by the French READ THE BOOKS, THEY ARE GOOD.

Err, if you found the movie heartbreaking then I suppose? But I'd generally recommend them on their quality of characterization, humor, and a fairly nuanced historical setting (some people do initially get lost in ship jargon).
