our engineering precision and tolerances have gone up rather exponentially since then though, not hard to keep a steam engine running if it's fine having 1/8 inch of cylinder gap and robber barons are paying to run it

you can do that now with existing operational ham radio satellites, a surplus police walkie-talkie and a few feet of wire to make an antenna

obviously dont do this, there are like 5 voice satellites in orbit at the moment and theyre all slammed to the wall busy 100% of the time

so how is it steampunk enthusiasts or whatever don't get the concept that steam is very, very hot?

steampunk dorks think steam = that cute whistling you get in a teakettle. they have never seen a pipe carrying real pressurized steam burst or they would be so loving terrified of letting it anywhere near their curvy goonettes that the movement would die

uh oh fayettevilles got a ~web 2.0 startup~

quote:

What do you get when cross an advanced degreed physicist/computer scientist with a serial entrepreneur who spent time in sales at Dell and Oracle? A committed team with insightful ideas and dogged determination.

Suffice it to say there is no shortage of talent or ideas with the team of Mark Brandon and Sloan Ahrens of StackSearch Inc. This start-up is based in Fayetteville and is one of the 15 teams selected from 86 entries in the Ark Challenge competition, a 14-week period where entrepreneurial teams work to bring their ideas and tech products to a scalable phase.

Brandon said StackSearch is an enterprise software company that has invented a product search server that is scalable and powered by the Cloud. It helps e-commerce merchants create a better search experience for their products onsite, which has a demonstrable effect on conversions – turning browsers into buyers.

you know whats better than shipping vaporware in a pretty box

shipping something useful in an ugly one

then you get bought out, let HP or ASUS fag about with the design, and drive it into the ground. then you're remembered as "the guy that built the actually good $DEVICE back in the day before HP hosed it up" the old ones get way valuable on ebay
