Shots like that are usually called "panning". Slow-ish shutter speed (I like 1/80), and follow the car looking through your camera, press the button as one smooth movement as it goes by. It works with any reasonably-quick object, cars, bikes, birds, people or dogs or other animals running, to give a nice impression of speed. And yeah, it is fun!
