Gromit posted:I've always thought that all games should have a mode that activates once you've finished it (or whenever, really) that lets you go nuts with the physics. It may break everything and leave you with a bizarre sandbox, but it could still be some fun. Publishers used to put "cheat codes" in games that let one mess with the physics and gameplay. Example: Minority Report: Everybody Runs (2002). I wish that they still did that.

Introversion Software--makers of Defcon, Darwinia, and Uplink--have announced the alpha release of a game inspired by Dward Fortress called Prison Architect. The announcement video promises that people who get the alpha will "enjoy exclusive access to GAME BREAKING BUGS" such as all of the prisoners heads being replaced by random sprites, prisoners taking food from the canteen to eat naked in the showers, and everyone getting an electric drill following a save and reload. Alpha releases are sometimes more entertaining than the final just for the amazing bugs that can occur.

Bertrand Hustle posted:The Havok engine handles physics (dead bodies) for a lot of games, and you might have noticed that in games like Dead Space, Dishonored, Skyrim, the Assassin's Creed series, sometimes bodies will spaz out and thrash all over the place if they get stuck in an unusual position. Bioshock uses the Havok engine, and the dancing-corpses glitch was never completely fixed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z537VOpiNw

Robert Denby posted:Judging by this video of "Forza 4", things didn't get much better with the sequel. Good grief, that is hilariously bad! I checked some other Forza 4 videos, and the online races suffer from "lag crashes," where different clients have different opinions on who hit who and when. Here's an example. One client says "sideswipe," another says "rear end," and the server says "boing."

The funniest parts for me are first, when the player hopped into the car to drive it, and the "passenger" kept spraying blood everywhere, making driving too difficult; and second, when the body just popped out of the window just as the people said, "Whoa!" Stare-Out posted:I had an interesting glitch while playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood when I first got it. Of course the very first thing you do once you're free to explore is climb the tallest building closest to you which I went to do, but instead of climbing normally with the normal animations, Ezio literally ragdolled up the building. It looked ridiculous with his arms and legs flailing around in a rubbery fashion while he steadily went up the side of the tower, slumping over the edge and lying there for a tiny moment before getting up into his normal animations. I haven't been able to recreate it and it only happened that one time. WHAT A GOOD DOG posted:Dwarf Fortress has the absolute best "glitches" aka "emergent gameplay". If you follow the dev log for the game, the bugs that come up are amazing: "Okay, there are dwarves walking around, though it's next to the wagon with the equipment that immediately explodes into clouds of boiling bronze while the dwarves flash between the dwarf and bar symbol wearing no-material clothes, but there are dwarves walking around." "Stopped people from giving quests to kill themselves." "I went through and fixed a few places where forbidden/on fire weren't being respected for next time. Burning milkable creatures were still a problem for example." "Got rid of world gen crash during succession after death of prolific long-standing position holders with inbred descendants." "I had to leave just before I tested the dwarf with the boiling gold blood." Edit: And I found one example of "emergent behavior" from an interview with the developer: "The one that always comes to mind is the executioner story, where the hammerer was injured, couldn't hold his hammer, and so bit the prisoner to death and then walked around with the guy's arm in his mouth for years."
