Creme_filling menonted there was an ork story where: "Also an ork going back in time and killing himself so he could have two of his favorite gun." Where is this from because this sounds awesome.

Correct me if I am wrong but the Black Templars are a bit of an inside joke. There are so many of them in the books and what not because they have the easiest color scheme to paint.

I always thought that the Fantasy world was just on a undiscovered world in the 40k universe. And one day the black ships will appear in the sky and see all these humans chumming around with xenos and mutants and orks running around all over and just virus bomb the joint and be done with it.

yaboonabi posted:Has anyone given The Last Chancers by Gav Thorpe a leaf-thru? I've only just learned of their existence, and I'm wondering if they're worth tracking down. It is actually pretty neat. I believe one of the guys in the penal (lol) legion was there for overdue library books. The third book was a bit silly even for Gav Thorpe. Turns out the main dude was possessed by a Daemon his whole life

mdemone posted:I love it. Like, I don't even understand 75% of what you guys are saying but I'm totally on board. Horus Heresy should wait for a while. It helps to have a lot of knowledge of the fluff so you can understand who a lot of these people are. You can't go wrong with Ciphas Cain to be honest. If you want a really well written story go for 15 hours. It is really short but it is strikingly good for Warhammer. If you dig the whole rosette crew Ravenor is awesome. And if bolter porn is your thing I really liked the Ultramarines books, but you will see people on here disagree with me. I am reading the Shira Calpurnia books right now and I am really digging the space Judge Dredd-ish story going on it. And I think she is one of the most positive female leads in a Warhammer book that I have seen thus far.

Arbite posted:Since the topic of radicals came up in this thread I'll ask it here as well: if radical inquisitors in Ordo Malleus use Daemonhosts, and radicals in Ordo Xenos use Jokaero and even Orks, what do the radicals of Ordo Hereticus use? Jokaeros are not part of cannon anymore are they? I would imagine if one could control them (which would be neigh impossible) they would be the most powerful person in the galaxy.

Cream_Filling posted:Why? You don't like Pacino Marine? That cover has always pissed me off for some reason. It makes the book look like complete garbage. Kinda like the early HH covers looked like it was rendered on the same computers as Reboot was.

It is really strange to read HH and realize that like half of the main guys from the first two books are all Daemon Princes now.

We get leather and milk from space cows, space wheat from space plants, and tech from Jokaero. Might as well burn people for eating grox steaks, is what I'm saying. I remember from the really old fluff that any attempts to harness the Jokaero just ended up with them building a means of escape instead of what you wanted. Also I would imagine space ape poo throwing also.

This is the only one I have ever seen. All though if they did make a collectors edition with a Ravernor style cover I would snatch that poo poo up in a second.

Therion posted:I've just started reading the Last Chancers and holy poo poo, it feels like it was narrated by Samus from Other M. "How can you do this!" I gasped at the colonel, being distressed. The reason of my distress was the tone of the voice the colonel told the bad news in. Now I'm going to take it out on my squadmates because I'm a ~tough guy~. The Last Chancers had the 'chance' to be the most WH40k book ever. But it just failed on so many levels. But there is some cool stuff in it yet. Like the Commissar who obviously is a total ripoff/poorly constructed homage to 'sunglasses' from Cool Hand Luke. But still I would love to see more written about Penal Legions in Warhammer besides the aftermath of a Slaanesh incursion.

Cream_Filling posted:Yeah, Abnett tells that story in one of the introductions. The image on that cover itself started out as concept art for the at the time upcoming Inquisitor game and miniatures line. I never played Inquisitor. Could you give me an example? It would not surprise me if it started out like that but then transformed into the awesome line of books we have now.

I think it would make a lot of sense. Grey Knights would have been trained in daemon lore. If a regular space marine knew the names of all those daemons he would prob catch a bolt to the head.
