If you just want to invest in mutual/index funds why don't you open up a Vanguard account, they don't charge fees on their own funds I believe and they have the lowest expense ratios? You are absolutely correct. I have my Roth contribution set to direct deposit from every paycheck directly into the Total Stock Market Index Fund.
