Anyway, anyone remember the ATI AMD R300 (9xxx) series of cards? That poo poo was relevant forever. I remember we got a 9800 Pro when they first came out in 2002, used it until it finally died years later. All they did with those cards for years was swap out the memory for higher bus width and larger amounts and it would suddenly work great with the latest games. I played Half Life 2 for the first time on that 9800, replaced it with a modern 9600 with more RAM when it broke, and only got a newer card when DirectX 10 came out. I think they still sell the 92xx ones for low-end budget applications.

I ran a 9550 Pro (AGR 8x, awww yeah) for years and years. Hell, its still sitting in a box on my parts shelf after I turned that old desktop into a NAS. Some driver conflict would cause Half Life 2 to crash whenever I tried to start it, but it ran Doom 3 without a problem. I finally replaced it (and the entire computer, a 1.3ghz amd cpu and 512mb of ram wasn't cutting it anymore) sometime after the WotLK launch. The 8800gt I stepped up to was a screaming upgrade.

The best place to ask would be either the Newbie or General questions threads in TFR.

It all depends on the phase of the moon and position of the planets when you ask the ATF. They'll get a letter like that back to you eventually. Later on they'll reexamine and probably contradict it. :iiam: what goes on in there, really.

So yes, there was, at one point, a 14-inch piece of shoe lace that was a machine gun.

Or three of the four self-checkouts aren't broken (something that's happened to me before).

The reason this setup doesn't work is because it falls under a particular fallacy of perfection. It only works the way it's assumed to work if all of the machines work perfectly without breaking down 100% of the time and are capable of doing customer service work to the same degree as humans.

Oh I'm in no way arguing for the complete automation of things. It's just nice to be able to get in and out, not get upsold and be on my way. I guess my time in the retail gulag was beneficial, as I have no trouble at all with those scanners.
