I've been updating my original version so I have it all written down someplace, but here's a more up to date one. Originally formed as the result of a bet between two wealthy scions of opposing colleges, the Oxford Mathematicians were created as a testament to the overbearing colonialist attitudes pervasive within certain sects of those hallowed universities. After all, what the Americans can do, the British can do better! Yeah, that didn't work too well. Years later the team limps on largely as a joint practical exercise by professors at both Oxford and Cambridge in advanced numerical studies, sustained by bequests the origins of which are only described in tobacco- and wine-stained tomes. In actuality this means graduate students are occasionally sent notes to deliver or money to drop off, and told to go carry that box of equipment, but everyone presumably learns something, and that's the main thing. Rumours that this unsupervised exercise added to the pressure of exams has led a to rampant belief in numerology in coaching staff, and an emerging numeric priesthood among the tenured, are strictly denied. 1:I want my team... C. To not completely suck. 2:The core of a successful Super-League team is... E. A couple of good players who don't die and a lot of luck. 3:Your team is middling. But, if you take a certain risk, it may become a contender, or may be relegated after the season. If you do nothing, your team will probably survive, but certainly won't win a championship. Do you... B. Hold off on the risk! They'll be time enough to perfect the team in the offseason! 4:Is Marauder evil? E. My answer to this was going to be that only history is a true and fair judge, but then a mysterious box appeared next to me, a decrepit, decaying figure falling out, who after being told on a question what year it was immediately expired, his last words a string of mixed curses and desperate thanks given that he could die in a time as yet untainted by the demon. So I guess yes. 5:The thesis of Moneyball is that it is incumbent on ballclubs to forever seek out market inefficiencies in order to give their team the best return on investment. What is the greatest market inefficiency in the Super-League today? D. If I know what it is, wouldn't it be important for me not to publicize that information? I mean, I don't know, of course, but if I did I don't think i'd say. 6:My team sucks. What the gently caress went wrong? A. I hosed up. 7:The best player of all time was... A. Babe Ruth 5: My ideal castle is... E.Airing weekly on Channel 5. 9: The biggest Hall of Fame Snub is... D. Probably someone i've never heard of. Question 10 E. Blake's Seven. If you've never seen it, a ragged team of ne'er-do-wells, idealists, and criminals attempt to defeat an evil empire, suffering tragedy and loss before eventually succumbing to their inevitable fate. The parallels draw themselves, I think. 11:Should Chicago forgive Steve Bartman? C. You're totally going to kill all of teams that picked 'yes', aren't you? 12:If the Sun is one, and the Moon is two, then what is the Earth? A. Zero 13:Will the new season of Community suck? E: Never seen it, really, except for all the youtube clips people send me to try and interest me in it. 14:Out of all of the idiotic characters Smasher has created, the one I'd want most on my team is... D. Is death an option? It is? Then I'll choose death. 15:What was the point of this? D. Smasher's got to know exactly how much lunacy the lot of you can tolerate. Bonus Essay Question What do you do? What do you do? If my Hover-Mazda is repaired, clearly my technical team have been infiltrated by spies from the Great Eastern Empire. The correct answer is to do nothing - if such cunning foes are aiding me, whatever they expect me to do will only benefit them in some way. Let themn inherit a scorched earth - let them own the ashes.

I'm wagering you missed my post after the first month, since Bumgarner doesn't have any playing time. Anyway, could you please alter my pitching rotation to this; Lincecum Cain Bumgarner Adams Beckett With Cooper going to LR and I guess switch Wilson and Romo in my bullpen. I'm also altering my lineups slightly, in the hopes that I can get them to do something with the ball on occasion. The only subbing is Posey in for Dietz, as i'd like to see what he can do even if Dietz is somehow my HR leader, everything else is just rearrangement. Against LHP 2B Joe Gordon SS Arky Vaughan 1B Jack Clark LF Miguel Cabrera DH Jose Canseco RF Carlos Beltran C Buster Posey 3B Pablo Sandoval CF Vince DiMaggio Against RHP 2B Jay Bell SS Arky Vaughan CF Vince DiMaggio 1B Miguel Cabrera DH Fred McGriff LF Zack Wheat C Buster Posey RF Carlos Beltran 3B Pablo Sandoval Finally, that injury. That's a problem. Until McGriff solves the crime that he himself committed and Vaughan gets better, move Bell over to SS for both lineups, and likewise Joe Gordon can take over the RHP 2B duties as well.

My guys are winning, hitting (if only predicted), Lincecum's great so far and Bumgarner is a highly acceptable starter. I don't know if the wider gaps in other leagues suggests the top teams are great or the bottom teams aren't (or both) but at least we're starting to build up a better record. Anyway, so, changes: Wheat can swap in the batting order with Bell in my anti-righty lineup. Cain and Bumgarner in my rotation can exchange positions. Romo and Wilson in my bullpen can likewise switch places to put Romo at Closer. As for replacing Bell at 2B... I'm hoping those defensive stats have been altered thanks to him playing badly at SS to cover for Vaughan, so we'll leave him playing there at least for one more month, I think. New to this, so my offers may well be terrible. Apologies if so, it's not deliberate. Putting it in this thread since it doesn't seem fair to let the other one have all the activity. Anyway, the Mathematicians offer: '19 Wilbur Cooper and '97 Jeff Montgomery for Mickey Lolich '99 Jim Mecir for Pat Dobson '11 Jake Daubert, '97 Johnny Damon and '97 Kevin Appier for Miguel Cabrera. Note that a successful bid on that last one would give me two Cabrera(s), which I think you'll agree is in itself worth something.

I don't know how this is happening, but eh, it's working, so no major changes. That said, Rick White should not be a long reliever. The main issue for me is that Vaughan and Clark are both first-choice guys for me. I trade away for a new backup guy, he picks up the slack while Vaughan's gone, but then he's probably, and hopefully, never going to see another game. I'm not sure that losing Clark entirely (well, half of him) vs. sucking for 20 days is a good tradeoff for me.
