It's going to be aged 33 years. You'd have probably liked it a lot more if you drank it fifteen years ago but now the taste is just disappointing.

I envision a New Year's Eve show sponsored by Flaming Lips Whiskey, as smooth as the nubile skin of Wayne's teenage girlfriends. Oklahoma city becomes the new Cabo, puts Sammy Hagar out of business, Wayne is the new rock party drinking guy.

HorseRenoir posted:I like it, but it feels more like an album deep cut than a lead single I kind of agree with this. It's fairly mediocre, has some decent instrumentals but awful lyrics. I could see it as a forgettable track on a decent album, but lead single? Hell no. It's pretty coincidental the Lips are popping back up because I lately went back and listened to the Peace Sword EP and realized something (and didn't want to resurrect a dead thread without news). Not sure if it's his age or the drugs (or both), but Wayne's voice is terrible now. This is really apparent on PS and especially this song. I was kind of into it until Wayne started singing, then it got bad. As for the new album, not really looking forward to it but will listen to it. Dead Petz kinda killed me on this band, but I'm open to them pleasantly surprising me.

Honestly if this is the best they can come up with after three years and a lovely Beatles cover album, I get the feeling that I'm really not going to be paying attention to the Flaming Lips anymore. At least Mercury Rev are still pretty good.

Didn't read thread but I met him at ATP NY 2009 and he was pretty sweet to me and told me, after I said to him I'm from Melbourne, that he was humbled to have played and probably pissed in a toilet at the same venue that the Beatles did when they toured Australia. He mentioned John Lennon in particular. Also let me take a selfie with him while he was cruising around on a golf cart. Oh and friends and I we're on a shuttle bus between the hotels and he and his crew politely asked if he could use the bus to detour to a local Italian restaurant. I'm spewing we weren't quick enough to say 'Sure, only if we can come too?'.

Its so depressing hearing the drum machine in that song, Kliph would have improved it by 500%.

Well the music video itself was complete garbage but the song was a definite improvement over the first one. Still pretty skeptical about all of this, though

The lyrics are kinda cringe but I don't really mind them as much in the context of the song. The song has this aura of resigned desperation that I dig, like a dreamier version of The Terror

I like the album art but it feels unfinished. All of the covers really help suck you into the concept behind them but this feels like they gave up halfway through

New song - "Sunrise (Eyes of the Young)" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9ucmQXY1u4 Wayne Coyne posted:The ‘Sunrise (Eyes Of The Young)’ video is part somber and sad and part childlike, ethereal fantasy. Myself and the band (Well… Ha… Some of the band) are lip syncing and play pretending in a scene out of perhaps the spaghetti western, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly… Ha. We are all looking serious and melancholy in what is maybe a church balcony at sunrise. The other part, the ethereal fantasy part, is Disney cartoon meets James Bond movie title sequence. The sun turns into a bouncy, drippy ball and is kicked around (and played with) by a giddy, cosmic nymph. The drop in quality of their music the moment Kliph was kicked out of the band is hilarious. I stopped keeping up with TFL after the Beatles cover album and Wayne's obsession with Miley Cyrus, hoping they would eventually return to making good music, but I guess they're going to continue making wannabe ambient music with misspelled words like 'fwends' and 'famly'.

I actually like "We a Famly" better than anything else released so far, the repeated chorus parts are great. I've been listening to At War with the Mystics and I really love most of the tracks on it, but there's some that I skip every time (Free Radicals, Haven't Got a Clue). I really wish they'd included some of the b-sides on there because as usual, they're awesome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH7LEDpb6wU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwI8_NzyCJ8 and "Why Does it End?" which isn't on youtube anymore.
