I gotta agree with that. Ugly paint jobs seems like a different topic than mechanical failures. I enjoyed the thread of just technical metallurgical stuff.

Aren't I right that there's like never been a recorded case of this where it wasn't due to driver error or a hoax? Pretty sure that was the NHTSA finding on all the Toyota poo poo a year or two ago, anyway. And if so, bravo to CNN for treating everything that lying/dumb woman said as scientific fact with no further discussion at all. I mean she did have an angel that told her not to drive too fast.

The only time I've been in a car that just gave up the ghost on the highway was when my friend ignored his oil light for a few months and his engine seized with his dipstick dry as a bone. I see poo poo like that at our bike shop too, with a sad twist. A lot of people neglect their cars, because they're just transportation appliances. But we see a lot of customers with mopeds come into our shop, and almost all of them are in love with the mopeds. It's like their girlfriend and their favorite guitar rolled into one. They can't live without it, and refuse to get rid of the unreliable dangerous pieces of poo poo (as they almost universally are) for something simple and useful like a 50cc Japanese scooter. But they hate to put any money or effort into the mopeds to keep them running good. Nobody checks their tire pressure, nobody ever oils their chains. They're in love with it but they treat it like poo poo. What the hell?

Not exactly a Mechanical Failure, not exactly a Cycle Picture. Not all that exciting, but pretty weird, a pretty bad idea, and I'd never seen it before.

Homemade motorcycle tire retread. At least that's what I think it is. The carcass of the tire was thin as hell, more pliable than a Pilot Power.

I've worked on those things, and they're actually awful. The little ruck has that minimalistic industrial look to it which is kind of stylish, and it's light as hell. The big is loving huge and heavy. Way too long. It actually has bodywork on it, and it's laid out in a way that makes it a bitch to work on. It takes all the good points of the 50cc and removes them. If you could wedge a 125 in the 50 frame, that would be the ideal bike.

Me too. Only issues I've had were boxing issues with USPS, and that's the fault of the sender. We receive USPS, UPS and FedEx all the time at the shop and FedEx is by far the worst. Whatever bureaucratic setup they have with their delivery men encourages lovely unreliable work, and it's virtually impossible to get in touch with your local warehouses and deliverers. It's like they're in the CIA or something, their phone numbers don't exist, FedEx corporate doesn't know what they do. Bad way to run a company, I think.
