Posting this again, I guess!

Here's the list of classes from the Jean Grey school - from the back Wolverine and the X-Men #1.

Does AR actually have any substance to it, though? To be honest, those panels don't really do much for me - on first inspection it seems like it's cribbing way too much from internet-level humour (Raptors! Carl Sagan! Etc.).

Is there more to it than that? And I don't just mean something like those corny panels where he's lamenting the state of 90's comics.

I've kind of learned to live with it. You can't really expect to look up anything related to comics without randomly being spoiled on something. As someone who is pretty new to comics and constantly go back and forth between runs, it's annoying, but not a big deal.

Like, I pretty much know everything that happens to Fantomex from birth to death and I've only just been introduced to him in New X-Men and am only at issue 15 or something in UXF. And that's just from random posts here.

Someone mentioned the Thanos-copter in another thread, so I had to look it up. Turns out it's a pretty funny issue.

From Spidey Super-Stories #39. More here.

I want a poster of that "can the corn" panel.

That's, wow. I'm not even sure that's an error.

Hazmat from Academy is replaced by Hazmat from Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. I guess the artist must've just googled the name or something

I've been going through Journey Into Mystery for the first time and #630 is one of the funniest things I've read all year.

Oh no, he's my favorite.

Yeah, I found it really refreshing to read an Avengers comic that was all about lighthearted character moments.

Do think it's weird how Thor is all chummy with Tony after it's been established several times that he hates his guts over what happened during Civil War, but whatever, that wouldn't fit the tone of this comic anyway.

Has Marvel become really, really good over the past couple of years? The last major storyline I read was Civil War and a lot of the Dark Reign stuff that followed it didn't really interest me (though by that point I'd sort of stopped reading new superhero comics).

Right now, pretty much everything except some of the X-books and Spider-Man is fairly awesome. Avengers is the best its been since like 2005/6 and even some of the more boring books are getting better or getting revamped into something that's hopefully better. Marvel is seriously killing it.

Yeah, I'm only like 5 issues in, but I kind of hate the art in Invincible. At the end of issue 3 there's this horrific looking 3D poser rendition of the main character that made me laugh out loud.

I actually like Kirkman, but the writing isn't doing much for me either. It's just really lazy; I'm already sick of every issue having a gag where his mom goes "that's nice, dear" after he relates some incredible experience. Like, I loving get it.

Does it improve much?

The artist changes to Ryan Ottley in issue #8 and steadily improves, he's on of my favourite comic artists these days. I can't even remember the joke you are talking about so I guess that at least goes the way of the dodo.

You were right! I'm up to issue 16 now and I like it quite a bit. The story is going somewhere fast and the art has drastically improved. Though I do think it's really weird how one of the characters is literally Rorschach, plus several other weird pastiches showing up like April O'Neil and principal Michael Winslow. I kind of dig it though, since if nothing else, it's really creative.

I'll stop derailing, but yeah, it's good.

Only DeConnick writes her like that to my knowledge, she tends to be more neurotic. You should still check out Bendis' Spider-Woman: Agent of SWORD mini, though. It's great.

Sidenote, but while the art in that Avengers: Enemy Within issue isn't fantastic, it gets serious points for being a superhero comic featuring two female leads that's not even remotely cheesecake-y. Seriously, there's not a single "sexy" drawing in the entire book. It's impressive.
