Thoogsby posted:this elaquent beat is ridiculous I love the off-kilter fill-ey drums mixed with the chilled as samples. Reminds me of old herbaliser. Here's something I figured some of you might dig - I couldn't get the song its based on out of my head and accidentally wrote an accompaniment to it, contacted the artist and remixed it into something new. https://soundcloud.com/aneurythm/miss-marielle-and-anuerythm

Just out of curiosity how many of you are using mpc's, computer-based setups or synths etc? If you are running mpc rigs do you bounce it straight out or as stems for arrangement? If you are computer based (I am) I really rate the JB Timemachine if you can find it, became ToneBooster Timemachine which costs money but is cool for crunching up drums or delays, emulates sampler bitrate/samplerate and ad/da. I finally forked out for Tone-Projects Sonitex not long ago and if you've got the money it combines about 10 plugins worth of processing in one place, and doesnt fuckout like the esoteric decade old freeware. I posted a track I did which uses it a fair bit (doublebass/vocals and lots of other elements) in this thread not long ago.

You might dig this. In the very beginning it was gonna be a remix based on all the samples in Pharcyde-Passing Me By, but now its pretty much the opposite. https://soundcloud.com/aneurythm/aneurythm-hearts-pulsate

tradjik posted:I'm working on a track for my EMP class. Any constructive crit? If you add some velocity modulation and envelopes to the sounds it will sound a lot less static and flat, play with the drums velocities too. Everything is the same volume forever, a good trick is to drop the faders of the hats to absolutely nothing and bring them in - you will be surprised how low the can be to sit right. Personally I would layer in another sound with whatever note you want to be dominant in that real dissonant chord dealey to help define it. Ladle Lady posted:my only question about that is should the mcs be aware that there's gonna be different bar structures so they don't get all stumbley when it switches on them? I've been experimenting with cypher style sessions at the end of my shows and they go alright...trying to find ways to improve them though. I was thinking a little flash card style 'here's the deal' type thing but that seems weird You could put in some big swells or reversed sounds leading to the switches that build up over a few bars, that would be an easy cue to get ready. Or tease a stab in for a bit before it hits properly on the one when new section drops.

zeldadude posted:hey guys, i was wondering if anyone knew if there was a word or genre name assigned to this style of hip hop. its like future bass inspired, head nodding, crazy with detail beats. future beats? Everyone seems to have different names for this kind of stuff. Instead of giving you wrong information I would suggest looking at some tag clouds of people on youtube and bandcamp. I'm not really in the loop especially now, these guys were pushing some interesting stuff for a while but are defunct. https://mad-hop.bandcamp.com/ These cats are solid with the compilations. This one in particular I reckon you would dig. https://uncomfortablebeats.bandcamp.com/album/cosmic-cake #Disclosure. I'm on this particular release.
