I could swing around 500 which from looking at the stuff you guys mentioned is probably what you have to spend, then. I'll have to save up a bit but thanks for the recs guys. I like those Truth ones cause they seem to have more fiddly bits you can gently caress with, and my room(s) are probably acoustically poo poo. I don't know what the measure of my living room is, but it's probably like around 10' deep and 20' wide?

guy in a jetta posted:http://soundcloud.com/pintofdirt/synthetic reminds me of some recent harry fraud beats. i'd put a little more reverb, just a little delay on the intro. if your delay supports detuning that would probably sound cool too. snare needs to be louder also, may resolve the busy thing a little bit. jm2c. good looks likin the vibes on this one. nice samples. don't know if you wanted feedback or not but: your mix needs some more bass, and i'd compress and push the levels on the master up a little more. I think you might also want to push the horns up a little bit in the mix too, but that's a matter of taste i think if i said something dumb there someone correct me. trying this giving rather than getting advice thing on for size EDIT: also, my rap team (the illusionati) are going to be releasing our first tape on 12/12/12. i don't know if anyone in this thread is excited about it but i sure am. we done good, hoping you guys enjoy it whoknew fucked around with this message at 18:18 on Nov 19, 2012 |

I'd pull the threshold up a bit from there, turn off the auto gain compensation, and maybe push the ratio down a little bit on the compressor. Also the release should probably be reduced, but I'm not as sure about that. gently caress with it. The EQ should drop the really low frequencies (first slider) by a few dB, and then the other ones which are above 0 should be pulled down so they're a more subtle boost. Also, sometimes it's easier to EQ before compression, sometimes it's easier after. Sometimes I do both. It's difficult to be really accurate because I doubt either of us are currently listening to this on real monitors. (didn't listen on monitors disclaimer) IMHO: The mix is a bit top heavy, the bass drum should be louder, and in general it could use a little more work getting your elements to sit together nicely. i.e. Some of the lead synths need some more eq and compression to fit and not cause discomfort, samples are a little too loud. Also pretty sure that your drums at the beginning are intentionally lo-fi but you took it further in that direction than I would have. Hats could also go up a bit. Non-mixing-wise I like your sound and you should keep doing it. Good work bruh whoknew fucked around with this message at 23:47 on Dec 4, 2012 |

Radio du Cambodge posted:Yeah I think it might have something to do with the volume of various instruments in the mix, or it's just my speakers? Right now, when I turn the volume up, the synth line and most of the percussion just sound louder, but the bass drum sounds like "BVVRRRK BVVVRK." Of course if you turn the volume up loud enough on anything the signal will become distorted, but I feel like I can crank the volume higher on a professionally produced track before the bass starts distorting. So I'm wondering what is responsible for that. You probably can't hear how loud your really low frequency stuff is, and when you turn the speakers up, they start responding to those frequencies more and it produces that effect. Just a guess though without really being able to hear and see your project. edit: also, no album drop today like I said. I guess that brings me closer to the stereotypical rap artist or something

yay first time i managed to actually sample something for a beat. all my other ones have been all original instrumentation. samples are from El Guincho - Bombay. planning on using this beat myself unless you are really good at rapping and want to use it, fyi https://soundcloud.com/doubl-e/bombs-away/s-K90b0 EDIT: also fyi as always i am open to collab with people in this thread that don't think rapping over the Bird on a Wire beat in their closet on their android phone is a good idea. get in touch if you wanna do a project. especially over this holiday time at the end of the year whoknew fucked around with this message at 20:12 on Dec 17, 2012 |
