At a convention a few years back, Seanan McGuire explained why she is named 'Seanan'. And I'm honestly not sure whether to take her seriously. The story is that when she was born, her mother wanted to name her "Mailbox". "But before she could sign the birth certificate, my grandfather came in and said, I will give you $500 to name that baby anything else. And the punchline is that I came this close to being named Anything Else McGuire."
