A 13 episode run with a known end date and a strong place to begin from is more than I had hoped for during last season's ratings struggles but I can't think of a better way to go out.

I actually prefer this to another 22 episode season. The only recent show I can think of that succesfully kept up the pace during a season that long, is Nikita. Most other great shows do 13 episodes a season, which usually means full-speed ahead/no fillers.

Fringe has had wildly inconsistent quality episode-to-episode since season 1. It got so bad in season 3 that the only reason I enjoyed some episodes was because they weren't nearly as bad as the previous week's. Without John Noble it would probably be about as well regarded as Falling Skies or Terra Nova.
