Does anyone know the podcast episode (CBB?) where John Mulaney "jokes" that Matt Groening's initial creative input sucked? And that it was only the talented showrunners (Sam Simon & JLB) that made something of the Simpsons despite getting 1% of the credit. He was pretty brutal in a charming "John Mulaney" way

I don't think it's the Oh Hello episodes since I relistened(still good)

I think it's ep 547. There's a Groening reference at 5.55, then a callback from 21.00 on.

The Razzies don't suck in concept but they do suck in practice so I agree with the podcasters that they should be destroyed.

I read a book about counting cards recently, and it made me wonder about some of the stories Scott has told.

Like didn't he say he used to drive to Vegas once a month and regularly make enough money for rent and bills? And that he once took a vacation to Atlantic City where he covered expenses by counting?

Because from what I've picked up, both of those things don't really make sense. There's so much variance in card counting that you need a bankroll 20 or 30 times your target profit, which means he wouldn't need to make money for bills -- he could just pay them out of savings. And apparently there's a law in Atlantic City that says casinos can't bar card counters, which basically means they make it impossible to do (using a lot of decks and shuffling them, as well as restricting the range of bets you can make).

I'm probably not remembering the details of what he said right, so maybe it does all make sense in context. It was just funny to go though this book feeling like the end of the Usual Suspects, piecing together all the things that don't fit.

Lauren really wanted that game to work during this week's Threedom. She was pushing for it three episodes in a row. I felt genuine pity when it died a death. I think it's the kind of thing that doesn't work well when the players keep injecting jokes into it.

I'm catching up on Threedom, and in a recent episode Scott got indignant that his doctor asked if he had really done all the prep for his colonscopy (because it was "kind of a mess down there" during the process).

But I don't know if I believe him? I think if you take the laxative and fast properly, it's hard to see it not cleaning you out? But then Scott was the one who brought up this story, so it would be very weird if he did that just to lie about it?? But he's kind of a weird guy anyway??? Idk!

I think I'm done with With Gourley and Rust for a while. The whole last year felt weirdly perfunctory and barely there, and it hasn't locked in for me so far this season either.

The sense I got over the past year of listening is that Gourley has a lot going on in his personal and professional life and might have shelved it by now if it was just his project (rip I Was There Too).

I totally understand that. It also never needed to be a weekly series. Doing two "seasons" a year, a Spring Fling series and an October series, with a dozen episodes each is plenty for their format.

I bet they feel locked into generating a bunch of content now that they have a good amount of patrons

Agree with both of these. If it was 10 episodes twice a year it'd go down so much better, but there's no way to square that with the demands of subscriber content.
