I'm just about to get into this game. Do people every proxy the upgrade cards, when playing casually at a LGS? I'm sure that for official play you need the real copies. Proxying seems more reasonable than having to buy multiple ships from a faction you don't play, or multiple big ships just for the extra copies of a few cards.

Any thoughts on the Royal Guard Tie title that was announced back in September? If you can double up on the same hull upgrade, an extra 6 points for +2 hull could be worth it. But it also seems like with interceptors you are putting a ton of points into very little damage absorption.

I'm trying to stay away from three-ship builds (excluding a YT), but this Vader + BH list is something I'd like to try: Bounty Hunter + Concussion Missiles + Seismic Charges + Recon Specialist (42) Darth Vader + Assault Missiles + Swarm Tactics + Stealth Device (39) Dark Curse + Stealth Device (19) Any thoughts? The idea is to exploit Vader's action to fire the missiles with a focus action at range 3, and then hopefully survive long enough to outmaneuver the opponent at close range.

Drake_263 posted:Gahdamnit, I managed to misplace the little sheet with the special rules and extra missions that came with my Firespray. Was there anything I need to remember there other than 'you can shoot your primary weapon behind you if you like'? The other rule I didn't know about until I read that little rulebook was that a large ships base can span further than range 1 from the edge during set-up. As long as as corner of its base is touching the end you can set it up at whatever angle you want.

Target has basically put their X-Wing on clearance, which will continue until it all sells. I found one at $20 a few weeks ago, and people are reporting getting them down to $12 recently. You can call a local Target and have them check on stock on other Targets in the area. One strange thing about the sets left at my Target was that all of them had X-Wings with severely bent cannons and engines. Not just bent plastic, but glued on at terrible angles. And compared to the other X-Wings I have the base paint is much lighter, so I'm guessing these were from an earlier run. I sent some pictures to FFG and they sent me a replacement at no cost.

Feral_Shofixti posted:I've been thinking about uglies.... Has anyone tried cutting up, say, an X-wing and a TIE to create an X-TIE, or done any other uglies? At some point I'd be willing to take a whack at that, but I'm wondering how easy these are to cut apart and turn into frankenfighters. I'm thinking about chopping up my defective X-wing and putting it back together straight and with the s-foils closed. It seems possible but the wings would definitely need to be cut precisely.

And the other card spoiled on that page in case anyone doesn't want to click through. They look really fun, and I love the alternate paint scheme with a red astromech unit up top.

So many exciting new mechanics coming up! This is really going to change the shape of the game, and give a refresher from the TIE swarm and B-wing/Sensors lists.

I've only played once with the epic ship and wave 4 cards, but I'd like to build my own list with 3+ Z-95s. This is what I came up with first, but it doesn't seem to generate enough attack dice. Any suggestions? Dutch Vander/Y-Wing (23) - R4-D6 (1) - Ion Cannon Turret (5) Garven Dreis/X-Wing (26) Lieutenant Blount/Z-95 Headhunter (17) - Ion Pulse Missiles (3) - Deadeye (1) Bandit Squadron Pilot/Z-95 Headhunter (12) Bandit Squadron Pilot/Z-95 Headhunter (12)

Has anyone found fun but competitively balanced low-point limits? Weird things tend to happen when expanding past the box set but before getting to 100 points. In my experience 60 points is tough because that just barely allows a 5 AP list, without many answers. Luke and R2-D2 has balance problems at low point values too.

End of August is what I've heard and seen occasionally, like this amazon entry for instance: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Star-Wars-X-Wing-Miniatures-Game/dp/1616619112 I don't have a more concrete source unfortunately.

I can't seem to find the Falcon at retail price or under. Are they temporarily in high demand, or is this normal? I definitely don't want to pay $40 for one.

Maybe I'm just bad at the game or don't run enough large ships, but I'm not seeing why this is so good. You get an attack for taking a loss of action and a hit roll on your ship, but in a very limited situation. I haven't played with a Falcon however, which it seems like this card is made for.

Lungboy posted:Does anyone in the UK know of anywhere with the Falcon in stock? Element were supposed to get stock yesterday, but their supplier didn't get any from FFG. Google shopping is only showing out of stock places, as far as I can see. drat, FFG website says reprint not until Q4 2014? http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_upcoming.asp I thought there was a reprint coming out soon. It's too bad, a nice part of X-Wing seemed to be that all ships were readily available at retail prices. That may not be possible as they spread production over the increased variety of ships.

I bought two core sets first, but since I don't play Tie swarm (yet) I only really use the extra dice. I was going to say that the X-Wing and Tie expansions are must-buys, but I don't know if that's true right off the bat. They are awesome because you get Wedge and Howlrunner, but it might be more fun to buy different ships for variety. These are the full card lists from every expansion: http://www.afewmaneuvers.com/topic/573-full-card-list-by-expansion/ I also like to mess around with this squad builder: http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build It shows you which expansions the various pilots and upgrades come from.

signalnoise posted:I need to know the financial aspects of this game. How do I slickdeals/fatwallet this game to get the most for my money? Are there good sales somewhere? How many ships is too much for one match? Do I need multiple B-wings? It depends what kind of games you want to play. You and a friend can totally have fun playing with the core set and two extra ships at low points values. That's what I did when I started: core set plus A-Wing and Tie Advanced. If you want to play standard 100 point games (around which the game's point values are balanced) you'll need a few more expansion packs at a minimum. At 100 points, most squads are usually made up of 4 or 5 small ships, or 1 large ship and 1 to 2 small ships. With average online discounts, small ships are around $12 and large ships are around $25. So on average that's something like $50 to $60 worth of ships per side, as a minimum. So if you want enough ships for both sides, with enough extra ships to try out some different lists, the whole lot will probably cost something like $150 to $200. That's how much I paid in expanding past the core set, and it lasted me a really long time until I caved in and bought some of the newer stuff. And this all assumes that you're fine with proxying the upgrade cards you don't have. If you need copies of every upgrade card then you'll be buying a lot more ships like people have said. X-Wing is pretty cheap as far as collectible miniatures games go. Edit: If you're spending over $100, the best deals in the continental US are probably CoolStuffInc or Miniature market. They have almost all ships in stock, at $10 per small ship and $20 per large ship, with free shipping over $100. WorldIndustries fucked around with this message at 04:00 on Aug 14, 2014 |

jivjov posted:Man that seems steep. I figured it was gonna be more than X-Wing's base box, but $100 seems too much. Yeah it's a hefty price, though the ships are pretty big judging from the looks of that video. Armada starter looks like as much plastic as 2 or 3 large X-Wing ships, plus all the extra plastic for those dials and maneuver sticks. It's really impressive how cheap they were able to make the X-Wing core set through the duplicate Ties, all cardboard pieces and so on. $100 is more what I'd expect from a minis game (and what I don't want to pay.) I'll likely sit Armada out until they come out with a lot more capital ships, and I can't resist any longer At that scale they'll be able to easily do the bigger star destroyers as the size of the Tantive maybe.
