quote:Rush Limbaugh: ...I had heard, actually, that Rush's listener base was grossly exaggerated by the laughably inaccurate listener diaries that were being used to track a show's exposure, and that the new automated monitoring thingies were showing that the 'shock jock' format actually had small audience (most of whom were only casual listeners). It was a couple of years ago that I'd read that story, though. Anyone know what (if anything) came of it? Also: Focus on the Family / James Dobson absolutely demands mention. FotF is a radical right wing Christian organization devoted to keeping the rigid structure of nuclear families & rigid gender roles in place at any cost. Unlike Rush or Fox News, Dobson is really in it for the ideology, not the money, which only makes him that much more venomous & frightening.

quote:I get the strongest impression that so many conservatives must have grown up in really lovely situations to have such a massive hoarding FYGM mentality over everything. They look around at the plenty and wealth of the modern world and think 'There's barely enough to go around! Why should I share!' Well, not Hannity. He grew-up in a very posh NYC neighborhood, made a name for himself by airing an AIDS denialist piece (and then being defended by the ACLU over his first amendment rights when the radio station tossed him out on his rear end) and made a an absolute killing by going on the afternoon talk radio circuit (starting in Athens, which shouldn't much of a surprise). He really is just a human-shaped poo poo stain, always has been and always will be. There wasn't some cruel factor in his life that twisted him into what he is today; he just smugly decided one day to loft the scepter and grace the throne as the king of Fortress Retard. EDIT: Spacedad posted:Ah yes. In fairness, he did attend university. I mean, he dropped out, but he still went. The Ender fucked around with this message at 23:42 on Nov 21, 2012 |

Aatrek posted:I'll never not love this interview with Bill Clinton wiping the floor with Chris Wallace. I have to say, I watch a lot of that interview with a very sick feeling stirring in my gut. "Look, we were gonna go stomping around and kill anyone caught in our path much sooner in an attempt to assassinate Bin Laden, but those brown people and the CIA and the FBI wouldn't allow it until after 9/11!" I can appreciate Clinton absolutely dominating Wallace rhetorically, but my God that man is a loving rear end in a top hat. Great way to bow out of the office, Bill, bombing a pharmaceuticals plant in order to deflect attention from your affair. The Ender fucked around with this message at 00:40 on Nov 22, 2012 |

SedanChair posted:The bon mots of Sean Hannity form the entirety of right-wingers smug talking points at work and Thanksgiving. They look to him desperately as a savior. ...That comic is satirical, right? Right? EDIT: Hahahahahahahaha http://www.comiccritique.com/cgi-bin/greview.pl?id=380 quote:I can imagine the difficulty Mike Mackey encountered trying to get this story published. All sorts of controversial comicbooks get published — pornography and, in the past, graphic horror — but comicbooks from an overt conservative point of view are rare, and this is the only one I know of that demonizes liberals. So hats off to Mackey, artist Donny Lin and the others who were able to achieve publication of Liberality For All in an era where soon it perhaps will not be possible. 4/5 stars for this genius masterpiece. Myrdhale posted:My god. It's happening. You're not nearly cynical enough. What's happening is that the ideologues are having marriage problems with Fox News as a result of the last election. Fox 'broke ranks', in their pea sized brains, for not following Rove off of the cliff and trying to claim a Romney victory or at least a 'close race' even as all of the polls pretty clearly showed an Obama win in Ohio.

Sydney Bottocks posted:This is definitely part of it, I've seen more than a few "Obama stole the election" articles that had comments where the commenters were bemoaning how Fox News is clearly in on the fix, has become too liberal, turned their back on America, etc. All because they called states for Obama instead of claiming how Obama clearly lied and stole the election and so forth. Granted, this is hardly indicative of Fox News potentially losing their spot as the #1 cable news network, but it's certainly promising. I imagine Alex Jones is going to see a surge in sales of his Terror Vortex or whatever bullshit he calls his DVDs these days in the coming months. quote:I don't think it was intentional, but it kinda turned into one when she interviewed Art Robinson in 2010. This is the best thing. Totally made my night.

quote:Here's the thing. Maddow plays right into the "they're dumb, we're smart" angle that pisses conservatives off. Go find me a clip where Rachel ever calls someone 'dumb', 'stupid', etc. Even when she is dealing with the most intolerable guests - Hell, even after she finished watching Clint Eastwood scream at an empty chair - she doesn't resort to name calling. The reality is that conservatives get pissed-off when they see someone who is actually intelligent / articulate talking about issues that they are wrong about, so they call those people 'elitists' and frame the conversation as though the other party is 'making them look dumb' when, in fact, they are making themselves look dumb by being forcefully ignorant. quote:Watch her show and think if you supported the Tea Party. Do you think that her talking about how stupid and horrible the people they respect are doesn't completely undermine her message? FOX got its base by hyping up the us vs them mentality, and yes, Maddow and a lot of others do the exact same thing, and provide evidence that fits the narrative of the elite liberal who laughs in your face and thinks you are retarded because you talk slow. Watch any loving channel and then try to pretend that you're a racist, sexist, homophobic poo poo head. Wow, gee whiz, all of these channels are awful, with all of these faggots and niggers and bitches everywhere! Well, except Fox News, but man, even good ol' Fox seems like it's slipping under the control of the commies these days. They didn't even point-out the obvious fact that Obama had relied on massive voter fraud to steal the election and dared to suggest that he actually won the presidency instead of Romney. Maybe the problem isn't Maddow, and maybe the problem instead is the racism, homophobia & sexism present in the average Tea Party audience member? Again, Maddow has never called anyone stupid (much less 'retarded'): it's not her problem that a large demographic in the U.S. is so hateful & selfish. quote:It's not just the Southern strategy that makes the Republicans the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice for southerners. It's the Nope, wrong. It's 100% the southern strategy that makes the Republican party the choice of white racist southerners. That's why it's called 'The Southern Strategy'. What, you think those guys were voting for Romney because they actually liked Romney? Ever read Free Republic or StormFront?
