Borderlands 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed FPSRPG Borderlands, quoted as being "Diablo with guns." The original game saw you take up the reins of one of four possible characters, each with a variety of skills and playstyles. You then went on a rampage across Pandoras eastern coast, collecting, buying, selling and perhaps ignoring thousands of different guns along the way in a quest to find the mythical vault. The game was touted as having "a bazillion guns" and according to the math, that actually wasn't too far off.

Borderlands 2 continues a lot of the same gameplay elements as the original game - there are four possible characters for you to choose from (5 if you buy the Mechromancer DLC pack, which you should because she is absolutely fantastic). A second vault has been discovered on Pandora in the Northwest region and another rampage is about to ensue. Keeping up with tradition, Borderlands 2 offers even more guns than the first, a far deeper storyline and a huge cast of memorable and for the most part extremely likable characters.

I've tried to keep this entire opening post as spoiler free as possible because the storyline in this game is actually really good, thanks to an absolutely stellar cast of characters. If there's anything that veers too far in bad directions though then shout at me loudly and I'll sort that out.

The game operates as a standard FPS with a lot of RPG elements, ranging from levelling up, talent trees and looting absolutely everything. Accompanying all of this is a huge cast of characters and a large, fairly involved storyline. Next to that is the staple of RPG games - the sidequest. Sidequests are a huge part of Borderlands 2, with some having large story arcs themselves, involving gang wars, revenge and making you into a bitch.

When you're playing through Borderlands 2 for the first time the key thing to remember is to just enjoy the ride, the first time through is pretty straightforward and you may find yourself overlevelling content if you complete every sidequest along the way. The first time through gives you a lot of opportunity to mess around and just enjoy your character and the storyline - for a lot of people the real fun begins in True Vault Hunter Mode, also known as TVHM or Playthrough 2.

TVHM is unlocked after you complete the game for the first time and is just a fancy way of saying New Game+. You retain everything from your first playthrough of the game such as character level and items. In this mode enemies are a higher level and do a lot more damage, punishing you for playing poorly or using items that aren't up to date with your level. Beyond this, if you complete the game a second time on TVHM you unlock what is known as "Playthrough 2.5" or PT2.5 in which the entire game is scaled up to your level (as it stands, all enemies will be Level 48-52) - this also includes sidequests you haven't yet started.

With regards to sidequests and PT2.5, for the quests that give you some extremely good items you may want to consider ignoring them entirely throughout TVHM until you activate PT2.5. That way their rewards will be scaled to Level 50 and be far better than their variant at a lower level. This is a purely optional choice however, due to the fact that the vast majority of the best loot in the game can be farmed whenever you want at the level cap. Never feel pressured into doing or ignoring something in the game because you want to min max your character - you'll always find another way of doing so 99% of the time.

With regards to overall gameplay, treat your first time through the game as a mixture of learning and going on a rampage. When you reach TVHM you'll probably find that treating the game as a loose cover shooter will serve you better with regards to your survivability. The good thing regardless of all this though is that if you find a way to play Borderlands 2 that works for you and you enjoy, you'll probably be absolutely fine right the way through until the end.

The game really rewards experimentation and trying new things, so don't ever feel like something is impossible - chances are you may just need some better gear or to refine your strategy a bit more.

Smokin' Jesus titty cinnamon, they are some badass characters. They're gonna be sweeeeeeet!

The characters in Borderlands 2 are a lot more defined than they were in Borderlands - gone are the days where playing as Brick made you feel celibate in a whorehouse, Mordecai and Bloodwing doing all the killing for you and Lilith being so overpowered the other characters were completely pointless. They're refined, they differ somewhat in playstyles, they aren't pigeonholed into using a particular type of weapon, and they are extremely badass. Click the character for their skill tree, what fun.

Once upon a time Axton was a military man, until he decided that the military was too boring. He comes equipped with a turret that makes Roland's from the first game look like a pea shooter. It comes with the possibility of being a nuke, doubling up, 360 degree rotation and as an aside, romance.

Unlike Roland from the first game, Axton isn't the primary support class - instead he's all about delicious firepower and talking sweet nothings to a piece of metal that kills things. The best part? A lot of his talents focus on making him better at everything. He's a jack of all trades without any of the downsides that would normally entail - he's awesome at whatever you throw his way.

Axton is everything Roland wishes he could be.

GUNS. DO YOU LIKE GUNS? GOOD BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE GETTING A LOT OF GUNS. HOW ABOUT USING TWO GUNS? OKAY GOOD BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE USING TWO GUNS A LOT OF THE TIME. WHAT'S THAT? YOU WANT SURVIVING AGAINST ALL ODDS TOO? WELL GOOD THING BECAUSE I, AS SALVADOR CAN ALSO DO THAT. OH WHATS THAT, FELLOW TEAM MATE? YOU'VE RAN OUT OF AMMUNITION? NOT ME, BECAUSE I AM SALVADOR AND I poo poo AMMO.

Salvador has insane survivability and (subject to argument) has either one of the best action skills in the game or the worst, depending on how you like to play. On the surface, "being able to dual wield for a short time" doesn't look like much, but once you apply a healthy dosage of the craziness in his skill trees and the fact that yes, Salvador probably does in fact poo poo ammo, you have a hell of a fun class to play in a cast of ridiculously good fun to play characters.

Salvador makes Brick look like the original skag licker.

Wiki page

So you've got a huge crowd of Skags bearing down on your position, you have all of seven health points left and you're probably going to die. Suddenly you spot a skag lingering behind the pack, you get him in your sights and you let rip a dimensional singularity that pulls all of those skags away from you and towards him, giving your shields chance to reload. That same singularity also just exploded and set everything on fire. You are now switching weapons and have just done a colossal amount of damage due to the fact that everything in the vicinity of that singularity is now taking bonus damage. You are Maya, and you kick rear end.

Maya plays fairly differently depending on how you place her talents, and takes up the main support role in Borderlands 2 if you want her to - she can also take up the role of being a dps machine, a debuffer machine or a combination of all three. Her action ability can be augmented in a variety of ways, from causing every status effect in the game on the affected enemy, to mind control. In groups you're going to be everybody's best friend as you revive people in mere seconds and throw out so much healing that the messiah himself will be jealous.

Maya manages to be as awesome as Lilith without being totally game breaking.

Wiki Page

Zer0 is pretty much an enigma, nobody knows what the hell is underneath his mask and nobody seems to be that bothered by the fact he references Yu-Gi-Oh and talks almost exclusively in Haiku. But why would they be? Zer0 kicks rear end like the rest of them.

Some argue that Zer0 is the hardest class to play, and others argue that if you say such a thing then you're just not playing Zer0 right. He is one of the few assassins out there that is just as comfotable with a Sniper Rifle as he is with a Shotgun or a Bazooka. His action skill lets you turn 'invisible' for a short time and line up perfect critical hits, shoot a ton of Kunai at the enemy, or become a spectre of unrelenting death.

Zer0 is Mordecai without the over reliance on Sniper Rifles and Pistols to do anything of note.

Wiki Page

She costs 800 MS Points or $9.99 on the PSN store, unless you have the Premiere Club in which case congratulations, she's free. She has her own ECHO Podcast thing (episodes; 1 - 2 - 3 - 4), she even got her own trailer and she is all about putting her abilities towards the end result - SMASH THE SYSTEM. She also has a pet robot that does a lot of the fighting alongside her, which is nice. There's also My Little Pony references in her talent tree so if you're into that kind of thing then I guess that's nice too.

So you have her first talent tree which John Hemingway - the lead designer of Borderlands 2 - infamously called 'girlfriend mode' and after he checked his privilege he realised he totally meant "makes Deathtrap loving ridiculous." Her next talent tree is shocking, which is a terrible pun to make but is literally true - feel free to spend your points in this tree and enjoy the battlefield being a symphony of shock explosions and fire. Her final talent tree is all about being able to SMASH THE SYSTEM. Put some points into Anarchy and you're going to be shooting everywhere but at your target, but when you do hit that target it'll probably die in one hit, because Anarchy is all about massive damage at the cost of giving fucks.

Gaige is everything that Mass Effect 3 wishes its DLC character was - what I mean by that is she is totally worth the money. Oh and she wasn't already on the disc either. That was a joke at the expense of EA.

Announcement trailer.

Game Informer details.

Kifisonfire has good eyes and managed to get a few of the skills for the new character from the PAX stream.

Kifisonfire posted:

Found a few more of his skills after looking at the video during the panel again.

Buzz Axe Bombardier (Bloodlust): Attaches dynamite to the buzz axe which, when thrown at enemies, causes additional explosive damage.
Fuel the Blood (Bloodlust): Killing an enemy with melee increases explosive damage for each stack of Bloodlust and adds extra stacks to Bloodlust.
Thrill of the Kill (Mania): A percentage of overkill Damage (damage that is over and above what was needed to kill the enemy) is returned to you as health. The lower your health, the higher the percentage.
Elemental Elation (Hellborn): While Elemental Status Effect Damage is being done to enemies, you gain stacks of Elemental Elation. Fire Rate and Magazine size increased for each stack of Elemental Elation.
Delusional Damage (Hellborn): All Elemental Status Effects (Corrosive, shock, slag or fire) you cause have a chance to light yourself on fire. Ignite chances are determined by those accumulated from Burn, Baby, Burn and Fuel the Fire.

More on Krieg when it comes.

Similarly to Borderlands, there are a stupid amount of things to collect in the game - Guns, Shields, Class Mods, Relics and Grenade Mods. Using the same procedural generation system as the first game with some new quirks, the choices are pretty much endless. Of course there are the end game God tier weapons, however the drop rate has been significantly reduced (to about 1% outside of specific circumstances) compared to the first game, which means when you find something of the Orange variety, there's less chance of it being a Thumper Hellfire and more chance of it being something to crack the champagne open for. The vast majority of bosses in the game also have their own unique special drop, and the best part of this is that they can all be farmed. There are only one or two cases where this isn't true, but thankfully you won't need to worry because in those instances, those bosses don't drop anything special anyway!

The key difference in all of this celebration though is that manufacturers really, really matter in Borderlands 2. In the first game the name "Hyperion" on a weapon meant your accuracy was good and the name "Tediore" on a weapon meant it was going to reload at the speed of light - it's similar here except with a few (significant) modifications. Below are some basic details on the various manufacturers along with what Gearbox says about the aesthetics of these weapons. If you see a link then there's even a commercial available to help you pick the right gun!

Hyperion - Do not worry about the afterlife, Hyperion customer! Hell is reserved exclusively for pedophiles, and people who buy Jakobs munitions.

Hyperion, along with manufacturing the Claptrap series of robots, the New-U respawn stations and being colossal dicks that make Atlas look like boy scouts, make weapons that have built in stabilisers. What does this mean to you? Well, the more you hold the trigger the more accurate you get. The downside is that before you press and hold the trigger and thus activate the stabilisers, you're going to be aiming like a drunkard. On the brightside, Hyperion weapons are designed witht he classy individual in mind. Want to be classy? Use Hyperion.

Gearbox says: "Since Claptrap was originally made by Hyperion, we tried to apply his design language to their gun shapes and played with complex flat shapes and various materials. We also focused on continuing the robot theme with our automated electronic reloads. Audio pulled it all together with a unique firing report and a cool servo-like reload sound."

Jakobs - If it took more than one shot, you weren't using a Jakobs.

The key thing to remember with regards to Jakobs weapons is that you'll probably fall in love with them if your trigger finger is on speed. All of the Jakobs weapons in Borderlands 2 have 2 things in common - they do a huge amount of damage and fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. They sacrifice a lot of accuracy, reload speed and all that nonsense for their ridiculously high damage, but when you're killing things before reloading and such becomes an issue, then who even cares?

Gearbox says: "Harkening back to the Wild West, Jakobs weapons have a rustic appearance."

Dahl - Dahl has been outfitting the defenders of freedom for over a century, and isn't about to stop anytime soon. We've built our company on the foundation that dead customers can't be repeat customers - keeping you alive is in our best interest!

Dahl are all about weapon stability, and with stability comes gratuitous amounts of accuracy. Every time you zoom in, or Aim Down Sights with a Dahl weapon you're going to activate the burst fire mode of the weapon, which usually involves 3-6 bullets being fired with every trigger pull. Their damage might not be as high as that of other manufacturers, and their accuracy might not be as high as that of Hyperion, but you can rest safe in the knowledge that recoil will not ever be a problem so long as you use Dahl.

Gearbox says: "Similar in form and function to modern military weapons, Dahl products are known for their stability."

Tediore - Tediore was founded on the principle that no family should be without the protection that an affordable, lightweight firearm provides. Whether you're planning on taking little Billy out to the fields for his first pheasant hunt or you need to chase some trouble off your front porch, Tediore will be there for you.

Tediore. Cheap, nasty, everything that Hyperion isn't. You're not classy if you use Tediore. I mean hell, their stuff even looks ugly. But you know what? With reliable damage and reload speeds equivalent to the speed of light, you won't even care. Oh, and by the way, that whole reloading thing? When you reload with Tediore you're reloading like a badass. Why is that I hear you ask? Reload a Tediore and watch as you throw the gun away and it explodes like a grenade, only to digistruct back into your hand with a new full magazine. Tediore.

Gearbox says: "Pumping tons of rounds into an enemy and then throwing the gun at their face to finish them off is a great experience."

Bandit - MORE BULLETS! MORE SHOOT BITS FOR BRAIN SPLATS! BANG BANG BANG BANG! ...BANG!

Reloading is for losers. So is accuracy. What you want from a weapon is HIGH DAMAGE and HIGH MAGAZINE SIZES. What you'll find here is exactly that. You'll forget what reloading even feels like, you'll not even be concerned when 90% of the magazine embeds itself into a rock instead of the face of the dumbass who charged at you with grenades sizzling in his hands. You want to shoot all of the bullets, all of the time. You use a Bandit weapon.

Gearbox says: "We focused on making each manufacturer unique through shape, colour, behaviour and sound. Working with everyone from design, to our 3D artists, to animation and audio, the weapon development was a fantastic back and forth process."

Maliwan - Every Maliwan weapon is designed by the skilled technicians in our bleeding-edge laboratories to pack as much elemental punch as possible. Our staff of artisans crafts each weapon to look as good as it performs.

Raw damage isn't really the be all, end all of things. In fact you can totally sacrifice raw damage for something far more... sexy. Maliwan is all about making combat and the death of your enemies as sexy as possible. If you pick up a Maliwan, know that you're soon going to be enjoying the gratuitous burning, corroding, electrocution or slagging of your enemies. Normal bullets are for people without imagination, elemental bullets are for the true artists. God drat I love Maliwan.

Gearbox says: "Maliwan weapons are just so sleek and sexy, I can't keep my hands off those curves."

Vladof - All Vladof weapons are constructed in the factories of your brethren and designed to pack the highest firing rate possible. The oppressors will be fast - we know this - Vladof helps you to be even quicker. Rise with Vladof. Together we will forge a better tomorrow!

VLADOF! VLADOF! VLADOF! Vladof weapons take one simple principle of how guns work and turn it up to eleven. You take your ordinary gun and then as the trigger is pulled you accelerate its fire rate. What results when using a Vladof weapon is a hail of bullets no man, beast or oppressor can stop. When you use a Vladof, you're not just using a gun, you're unleashing a tsunami on your enemies. A tsunami of bullets.

Gearbox says: "Kalashnikovs, spinning minigun barrels and banana clips served as the initial inspiration for Vladof's particular brand of weapons."

:torgue: Torgue :torgue: - Did you know over 97% of all creatures on Pandora aren't exploding right now? THAT'S BULLSHIT! BUY TORGUE!

LISTEN TO ME OVER THE NOISE OF EVERYTHING AROUND YOU EXPLODING IN MY GLORY. YOU SEE, I AM A TORGUE GUN AND AS A RESULT WAS PROBABLY DESIGNED NEXT TO A CEMENT MIXER. YOU SEE I AM EXTREMELY LOUD AND I DO NOT DO ANYTHING THAT DOESN'T INVOLVE EXPLOSIONS. YOU WANT AN EXPLOSIVE SHOTGUN? WE HAVE THAT. AN EXPLOSIVE PISTOL? NO PROBLEM. OKAY FINE SO MY BULLETS DON'T TRAVEL VERY FAST AND YOU REALLY NEED TO LEARN TO LEAD YOUR TARGETS WITH MY LUXURIOUS CHARMS, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? I DON'T EVEN CARE. FOR I AM TRUE. I AM MIGHTY. I AM TORGUE.

Gearbox says: "Torgue: Explosions and more explosions. And just when you think they are done... MORE EXPLOSIONS!"

E-Tech - Based on my medical opinion, E-tech is friggin' dope!

Not strictly a manufacturer themselves, these weapons have a bit of backstory behind them explained below. E-Tech guns don't use traditional projectiles and include a variety of things being released from their barrels - if you find an E-Tech gun it's probably elemental and could fire anything from bursts of plasma to being a fully fledged ricocheting rail gun.

Gearbox says: "Hyperion took the eridium that started popping out of the vault and made a cool technology out of it called E-Tech, an alien technology that changes the way a gun looks and behaves, which it then licensed to all the different manufacturers - that's why the designs all share that stretched hexagonal panel shape."

Herein lies various things regarding DLC. Details regarding the Mechromancer DLC can be found in the Characters section above.

As it stands there has been confirmation of four DLC packages, the first of which was released on October 16th and is titled Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty. You can either purchase the DLC separately for approx. $10/£8 or altogether in one package by purchasing the Borderlands 2 Season pass - the Season pass nets you a 25% saving, or means you get one DLC package of the four for free, which is nice.

DLC: Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty.

Featuring several new locations (which are aesthetically quite amazing) and a whole new storyline, along with gamings most self aware character ever, this DLC involves pirates and treasure. You'll get to try out a new vehicle and several new enemies (most of which, sadly, are new variations of bandits) in your quest to find the legendary treasure of Captain Blade. The reward is pretty awesome for completing the DLC, and you'll also find yourself facing two new raid bosses which make Terramorphous look like Knuckle Dragger - The Bee ain't got poo poo on these guys.

When you complete the DLC make sure you explore the entirety of the final room. A few players have been robbed of the reward by not exploring 'all the way to the top'. Don't let this happen to you.

You can read a full review of the DLC from Eurogamer by clicking here.

Goon consensus is generally that this DLC is pretty good. Most seem to prefer it when compared to the reception that Dr. Ned's Zombie Island received here. The music in particular is phenomenal.

DLC: Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage

“The basic story of Campaign of Carnage revolves around a new vault discovered in Pandora, buried in the center of a large crater that will only open “once the champion of Pandora feeds it the blood of the ultimate coward.” Your introduction to Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage comes via Mr. Torgue himself, screaming at you like a terrifying mix of Hulk Hogan and Macho Man Randy Savage with a deep love for explosions.”
--Taken from The Examiner.

Released on November 20, 2012 the second Borderlands 2 DLC features everything goons all wanted - MORE TORGUE. A few gameplay videos, located here (ign) and here (gamespot) are worth viewing.

This DLC is a lot better than the second DLC of the first game - the rather disappointing Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. There's a nice little storyline going on here, that nobody gives a poo poo about because explosions are more important. In line with the first DLC, there's also a loot bonanza ready for the taking. Also there are arenas. That's a thing, huh?

Here is the Eurogamer review for your pleasure.

Goon consensus appears to be that you will lose your family in a tragic, yet humorously explosive event if you do not buy this DLC as soon as you possibly can.

DLC: Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt

Whisking players away to the savage lands of Aegrus, Sir Hammerlock wishes to engage in exotic game hunting but, much to no one's surprise, things don't go according to plan.

A wonderful (some spoilers) review from Joystiq can be found here.

Goon Consensus: Not as good as what came before but still decent if you want more Borderlands 2 (which you do).

The big beautiful April 2nd update / DLC

First of all I need to direct everyone to the most important component of the April 2nd update / DLC bonanza. The following list is all free of charge.

- New items in the Black Market:
- One additional ammo upgrade for each ammo type, at 50 Eridium each.
- Two more backpack storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
- Two more bank storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
- Increases the maximum amount of Eridium players can hold from 99 to 500.

This DLC is $4.99 / 400 MS Points unless you are a season pass holder, in which you're getting this for free. There are also some free elements to this DLC, too. Bonus point! As well as getting the things mentioned below for free you'll still be getting a 4th campaign DLC for your season pass - congratulations, you can send all of your fanmail for this wondrous thing to Gearbox.

April 2nd is a glorious day for many Borderlands 2 players, as we've been granted 11 additional levels (and 11 additional skill points as a result) for a very low price. More importantly though is that a third playthrough is going to be available - Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode with a variety of things. UVHM is totally free, and your money is only required for the level cap increase and for something... else.

Players of Borderlands 1 will remember that the Secret Armory DLC introduced a new weapon tier - Pearlescent. These weapons are making a return and will drop in UVHM assuming you've paid for the level cap increase. If you find one of these weapons then you may want to consider purchasing a lottery ticket at your earliest convenience, due to how rare they're most likely going to be.

"Gearbox Forums posted:

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Details

- Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is unlocked for a character once they have completed the main story missions in True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50.
- Unlike other playthroughs, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode can be replayed multiple times with players able to reset their overall mission progress at any time from the Main Menu.
- No more tutorial missions -- characters in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode begin in Southern Shelf with the "Cleaning Up the Berg" mission.
- While playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, enemies and bosses will scale according to the player's current level or, if playing with others, the highest-level player in that party.
- Gameplay changes in UVHM:
- Enemy health generally increased 4x.
- Enemies now have a moderate amount of health regeneration.
- Increased duration of slag damage multiplier effect.
- Upped the damage that slagged enemies take from 2x to 3x.
- Weapon swap speed increased to better facilitate slag use.
- Enemies now more likely to drop ammo.
- Loot Midgets are now "Legendary Loot Midgets" that can drop Legendary and other top-tier gear.

So to recap;

You get the Black Market updates and Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (playthrough 3) for free.
You get access to level 61 and Pearlescent weapons for free if you have a season pass.
You get access to level 61 and Pearlescent weapons for $4.99 / 400 MS Points if you aren't a season pass holder.

If you have Twitter be sure to follow Randy Pitchford and Gearbox software. They post SHIFT codes every so often which allow you to get Golden Keys for the loot chest in sanctuary - if you don't have Twitter then fear not for most of the codes posted thus far have been posted by kind goons, so keep an eye on the thread to maximise your purps.

Along with the above two twitter plugs, there's also the ECHOcasts twitter, which has so far been used to give details (in a way) of upcoming DLC. Gaige the Mechromancer and Mr. Torgue have both been featured on the ECHocasts twitter, and there's also occasionally ShiFT codes posted there, too, which Mr. Torgue blamed on his cat walking across his keyboard. Because he understands the internet.

If you are looking for Goons to play Borderlands 2 with then may I suggest having a look at the IRC channel #sa-borderlands on SynIRC- it's full of delightful people who want to help you get sick purps and make you help them also get sick purps. If you don't have IRC then click here and change the 'channel' to #sa-Borderlands and you'll be good to go.

The Xbox360 Metatag to help you find Goons to play this lovely game with is GoonsPlayingBL2. You can thank Dross for that one. Apparently the metatag is full right now, however you can still browse the people on it to find new lifelong friends.

And if you are allergic to metatags/have a PS3 and can't use IRC then you can click here to find the thread in which you can post your gamertag and make all your wildest dreams come true.

And finally - If I've missed anything massively important, obvious or otherwise just been completely negligent in my duties as a Games forum OP, then shout at me loudly about that as you would regarding spoilers and I will fix my terrible error as soon as I possibly can.

What's included in the Season pass?

In the Season pass for this game, you'll get access to the four main DLC campaigns for the price of three. What you won't get is any other DLC they release, such as the Mechromancer character, or any other characters they may or may not release. In short, only buy the season pass if you want to buy the DLC campaigns, which you do, because so far they are awesome.

What is this True Vault Hunter Mode and Playthrough 2.5 I keep hearing about?

When you defeat the final boss of the campaign for the first time, you unlock New Game+ (named True Vault Hunter Mode), in which enemies are smarter, harder to kill, and deal more damage to your character. When you defeat the final boss again in New Game+ you unlock "Playthrough 2.5" in which all enemies in New Game+ now scale to your level, and as a result drop better loot as well as being harder to kill.

You need to select True Vault Hunter Mode from the main menu of the game, and you can still go back to Playthrough 1 of the game from this menu if you want to.

How do I get sidequest rewards to scale to my level in Playthrough 2.5?

Any sidequest that offers a loot reward can have that reward scaled to level 48-50 once you defeat the final boss in True Vault Hunter Mode. The condition is that you cannot have accepted (or by extension, 'discovered') that quest prior to defeating the final boss. If you want a particular item from a sidequest at the level cap, then make sure you don't do anything concerning that questline before you defeat the final boss.

As a sidenote to this, TVHM is hard if your gear isn't up to date, and sidequests are one of the best ways to keep your gear up to date. Don't feel like you're going to miss out on the "best loot in the game™" by waiting until later to do the sidequests - there's almost always going to be a better gun, shield or whatever else that you can easily farm once you reach the level cap. The choice to go for high tier sidequest items is for the most part a personal one.

My challenge list is reading as having done level 1 of every non-level specific challenge but I still don't have the achievement! What gives?

Some challenges only unlock when you reach a certain rank in another challenge, the two that trip people up most on this are "Catch a Rocket!", which requires Rank 5 in "Splish Splash" before it unlocks, and "Shotgun Sniper" which requires Rank 5 of "Open Wide!" before it unlocks. As a result, for the achievement you need to get Rank 5 in certain challenges before you can unlock everything you need to get at least Rank 1 in.

For further details regarding challenges click here.

Why does everybody bless the ground Randy Pitchford walks upon and talk about SHiFT codes whilst they're doing it?

Randy Pitchford is a cool dude and I would hang out with him. That's one reason. The other reason is that SHiFT codes let you open up that golden chest by the Fast Travel station in Sanctuary. In that golden chest are guaranteed purple items tied to the level of the character opening the chest.

In order to get the keys to open that chest, you need to use SHiFT codes. They're posted most often by Randy Pitchford on his twitter account, as mentioned in the 'various things' section above, but more often than not kind goons post them in this thread too, so if you're allergic to social media then don't worry, you can get the codes anyway.

To use them, on the games main menu go to "Extras" and then select the "SHiFT" option, sign up to the service for a free golden key if you haven't done so already, and then come back to this screen whenever you have a fresh new code to use. Simple, really.

What is UVHM?

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, or "Playthrough 3" is unlocked after you defeat the final boss in True Vault Hunter Mode. The mode scales up with you as you level and has increased drop rates for most items, along with other changes outlined in the "DLC" section of the first post. This mode is difficult, and at times will make you cry out "bullshit" but it's designed to be the hardest mode you can play and isn't impossible, even solo.

I keep getting my rear end kicked in UVHM and this game is therefore the worst game in the world, what the gently caress? Gearbox :argh:

The first thing about UVHM is that you need to be on the ball with your weapon switches, use the D-Pad rather than Y or Triangle to ensure you're making the most of the increase in weapon switch speed that the mode provides. You'll need to combine this with Slag, and more Slag the better. If you can augment your action skill to produce Slag, do that. Absolutely anything that gets more slag onto enemies is crucial. You're also going to want to have decent elemental guns or a phenomenal non-elemental gun to make use of all the slag.

If you feel like you're dying too much, use cover and play a bit safer. You're going to be knocked into FFYL a lot and if you're playing Solo it's basically the same as being dead, so mitigate against that as much as you can. Play smart.

SO there's an iOS game coming out titled Borderlands Legends which is looking to be quite interesting. You can read about it here.

Isometric top down gameplay and it stars the original vault hunters, apparently letting you control all four at once.

Price tag is $4.99 on iPhone and $6.99 on iPad and it's out on October 31.

The thing with The Bee, in particular any version that isn't Level 50, is that you trade massive amounts of survivability for extra damage. This isn't so huge with the Level 50 version due to it having such a low recharge delay, and the capability of adding 50k damage to each bullet.

When you go into TVHM (and even the final stages of Playthrough 1) your main concern really should be more about surviving and careful, more strategic play than in Playthrough 1, and The Bee simply won't ever give you that. Someone is probably going to jump in here and say how wrong I am for saying these things, but I guess it's dependent on you as a player to be your own judge on this thing - if you think you can use The Bee at its lower level variants, then go for it, but if you find that it's underwhelming compared to the love you've seen heaped on it on this forum, then you might find yourself having an easier time by using a Turtle Shield or something, to give you that extra edge with regards to survivability.

I haven't been posting much lately because of reasons but I have just updated the OP with DLC information and things, which is a fantastic way to spend my time on an idle Wednesday.

Speaking of which it's about time it had an FAQ, so if anyone has anything they think worthwhile that isn't below then that'd be grand.

-Activating TVHM and PT2.5.
-Sidequests in PT2.5.
-The achievement for all challenges complete.
-SHiFT codes and how they actually work.

I haven't had chance to buy the DLC yet (paid tomorrow :woop:) but from the sounds of things I am missing out pretty heavily, can't wait to sink my teeth into it.

:siren:Things to be revealed include a new playable character and information regarding a level cap increase.:siren:

I'll update the OP following the news with all relevant information, but until then I'm going to watch that trailer another six times and let my imagination run wild.

Also a quick reminder that if anyone wants anything added to the OP then shout at me via PM; I've been updating it here and there as I read the thread (even though my posting has been somewhat dry) but there's always going to be things missing.

Been playing through UVHM this weekend with my Siren, and there's a few things it's brought to my attention.

First of all lets talk spec. These all assume a Slayer of Terramorphous class mod, hence the vagrant points floating around here and there on the tier 1 options.

At the moment I'm running this at level 54;

The goal is to end up like this, with one point left over, which will give me chance to experiment with Ruin and Thoughtlock working together;

However, there is also this spec possibility;

The way I see this spec working is primarily through survivability from Harmony accompanied with the DPS provided by Cataclysm, however I'm yet to really experiment with it, due to being level 54 and all. The main thing I'm really going for is slag opportunities. Harmony provides Scorn which and Motion gives Sub-sequence. This third spec loses out on Converge however, which lowers the value of Ruin overall. The other thing is dropping Cloud Kill (and as seen in the spec I'm using now, Blight Phoenix) but this is mostly because the damage these abilities do just doesn't scale at all, it's loving awful. Reaper has always been a sort of "ehh" skill for me too, but I'm generally just not a fan of skills that do more damage when an enemy is its farthest from dying as opposed to its closest.

Ruin and Converge just seems extremely useful given that it's a guaranteed slag against a hell of a lot of enemies, and combined with a Tesla/Cloud/MIRV grenade it makes for some gorgeous fireworks. You can just point a SMG into the chaos and you're guaranteed to hit something, too. Everything is also so staggered or confused by the amount of damage they're taking that you get a good few seconds respite from everything shooting at you. It's a delicious combination.

Either way I'd be interested in hearing from Sirens who've hit 61 and what they've been playing with.

Beyond that a few things have jumped out at me, since I started playing UVHM. As mentioned I'm level 54 and I'm up to Tundra express. So far the most apparent thing is how much of an asset having The Bee and Moxxi's Good touch is. The amount of health enemies have is utterly insane, and the increase in damage output even with slag in mind from using The Bee is worthwhile. The second point about The Bee is how much damage you take - most shots will deplete your shields in a few hits, regardless of Shield Strength, from what I've noticed. The primary drawback to The Bee is the low shielding it provides, but given it's recharge rate and the fact that more shields doesn't really make much difference that ends up being negligible. You do take a lot more health damage as a result, but this is why pairing it with Good Touch has worked so well for me, thanks to the incredible amount of health regen it provides when accompanied with the damage output you're doing in general, add in the Terramorphous Siren mod and you've got a recipe for constantly regenerating health (plus that which you get from Sweet Release) and a poo poo ton of damage.

That being said it strikes me as odd that if I'm not using these two items as much as possible that the game is a lot less fun - harder sure but not in the fun way. Using the Bee means I need to keep it topped out at all times in order to be effective, and that involves making clever use of cover and in more open areas (i.e. when dealing with Badass Mutated Varkids in Tundra Express) being able to maneuver and use the terrain to my advantage. The way I'm playing at the moment is some of the best fun I've had in a game I find it personally difficult to fault, but there's this nagging feeling that whilst I'm finding things balanced and interesting, it's because of what I'm using. Sooner or later my level 50 Good Touch is going to become out of date too, and whilst I can always get another one there's also the fact that I'd prefer one at level 61.

Anyway, I'd love to hear more thoughts from Sirens and other classes about how they're dealing with UVHM, in particular if you're going solo like I am.

Does Sub-Sequence reapply Ruin? If so I'd go heavy on that first build. Maybe put points in Suspension instead of Inertia if that's the case.

Need to test this when I have more skill points at my disposal, but that's what I was hoping for when looking into where I was going to go. Suspension over Inertia definitely seems like the logical step if that ends up being the case.

If not though, then Ruin, Converge and Wreck as jackofarcades has mentioned would probably be the next best thing.

I think the biggest excitement I have overall for UVHM is trying out all these new skill combinations.

More thoughts on UVHM Siren Solo, I'm now up to the Bunker and I'm about level 57, as I've decided to start skipping side quests for a bit.

Eventually gave up on The Bee after I got a really high capacity purple from the Golden Key Chest and it's been doing me really well, rocking about 100k capacity and about 100k health at the moment.

I picked up an updated version of Moxxi's Good Touch after I realised you can get it multiple times on each playthrough, and it's still proving to be the most important gun at my disposal. The health regeneration is simply too important not to use. I picked up Rubi as well and got a Slag variant which has proven to be absolutely perfect because I can slag stuff and burn stuff and regain health. The combination is excellent against flesh enemies. Eventually had to sideline my level 50 Shock Plasma Caster as well after I found a level 56 green shock maliwan that was better all around, which was a sad thing to see go because that gun took me through a lot of the Level 50 content. RIP, gun. The Corrosive Teapot from the Flesh Stick quest has been necessary too, it's a very good armor bursting gun.

Bloodwing was a bit of a nightmare at first but then I remembered I'd found an elemental resist E-Tech relic and that combined with a Level 56 Law made short work of the bird. I will say that you need to make sure you never, ever stop moving. Keeping a fire weapon is handy too so if you get put into FFYL you can blast down the Skags in the arena quickly, which Mordecai is kind enough to pre-slag for you. Killing them as they appear is a bad idea though, and if you keep moving as much as you can they won't catch you anyway.

The only enemies that are really causing me to cry bullshit are Constructors, but that holds true for every single mode so no surprises there. I've been picking them off from a safe location with a Jakob's Sniper Rifle without too much of a problem beyond how long it takes to plink away at their health.

In terms of Siren Specs, Wreck, Converge and Ruin is an absolute blast, however Sweet Release is becoming less and less viable. I'm still using a Terramorphous mod so it's only got one point in it at the moment, but it's becoming harder to ensure that things will die in order to benefit from its healing, and now that I have Rubi as well as Good Touch, eh. Can't see it being much more useful than as a free bonus heal every now and then. Still, no point in not taking it with the Terra mod considering it's only a one point investment to regain pretty much all your health back on a kill.

Can't help but feel that Bunker is going to be a nightmare, and Control Core the same. Still, UVHM is probably the most fun I've had with the game yet, and there's been times things have been so intense I've been sitting on the edge of my seat to the point of the seat being irrelevant.

Saturn in UVHM is an untold level of bullshit and the first time UVHM has really made me say that.

It took me over half an hour to solo him earlier. He's immune to elemental effects including Slag, which seems like a massive oversight in UVHM in general - to have things immune to a core mechanic like that just seems like an absolutely terrible design decision. BNK3R wasn't so bad because he doesn't have Saturn's three trillion health and is a lot easier to fight in general thanks to having realistic crit points and not "four pixels on his heels." Slag immune enemies just seem like total bullshit given the mechanics at play in UVHM. It's the only complaint I really have about it. But it's a big complaint.

Of course not five minutes after I beat him down there was a huge powercut so I have to do it again in order to progress further :suicide:

Probably going to just get myself to Level 61 and grab an updated The Bee before I try again because gently caress that noise.

Finally got hold of a level 61 The Bee after about 30 kills, irritating a bit because I got a level 57 one back when I decided I wanted it for Saturn and The Warrior on the first kill. But holy poo poo it's worth it.

150k amp damage.

Now I need to get rolling through Pirates Booty for a level 61 Sand Hawk and it'll be just like having my old Conference Call again.

The Warrior was kind enough to drop a level 60 Impaler when I killed him for the first time, too. These two shields combined make a pretty excellent force to be reckoned with. The Bee for bosses and Constructors, Impaler for taking care of groups of enemies. Life in Borderlands 2 is starting to look even better.
