A find from ballp.it: a radio show making fun of these assholes from 50 years in the past.

This episode was amazing, because as with everyone else I expected it to go in a completely different direction than it did. I knew these guys were pretentious suckers, but I didn't expect them to literally be buying rocks to improve their audio quality.

Didn't that Nostalgia Critic guy quit his job in the most flamboyant way possible when he was making bank off ad revenue? What happened with that? I'm assuming nothing good.

There's video of it, but gently caress if I'm gonna go find it. I'm pretty sure it involved a boombox playing Also Sprach Zarathustra as he held up and danced with an 'I Quit' sign in the cafeteria.

Doug Walker's probably one of the few internet critics that could ever afford to do that, though. Even if TGWTG does stop being able to pay his bills (and it doesn't look like it will) then he's clearly accrued enough cred in his field to get a job in it.

I looked through the submitted content table, just to make sure that I was right. My favorite recent flavor of Stupid Internet isn't even in there.

I think it's now my duty to put together a Sovereign Citizen document. Question is where to start in looking for the stupid people. I know I want to include segments of the 140-page document by an actual judge debunking their entire platform, and I'm sure there are some good court transcripts around, but I don't know if there's just a whole bloody forum of people trading Legal Wizarding Tips.

I think Patreon's episode is sort of the odd one out of the 'Give Me Money' series, but not in a way that's unfunny. It's just a different type of funny.

The other crowdfunding episodes have all been mainly about stupid people with bad ideas. They slot in with the Idea Wiki, AHHHA, and FilmProposals as people who're just laughably dumb. There's a smaller subsection of people who aren't as stupid, but make up for it by being insufferable, but it's mostly the Idiot Show.

Patreon's balance is the other way around. There's some idiots, of course, but the main focus is on people with slightly more of a clue, but not enough to not be irritating. We're in the 'pretentious, self-absorbed people who don't get how the world works' corner, with NaNoWriMo, Review Rinse Repeat and Troper Tales. I personally don't like those kinds of episodes as much, mostly because these people give me douchechills, but it's not an inherently invalid angle.

They said in the MRA episode that they don't want another one and people shouldn't send them docs for it, because the material is so horrible and disturbing.

I think the ruling is that it can't just be MRAs and misogyny, there has to be more to it, and there has to be enough of that 'more' to be funny. PUAs get a tentative pass because even if they are misogynist as gently caress, they couch it in terrible dating advice and seduction techniques, which is funny by itself.

As another example, take Gamergate. Misogynist to its core, but it's something more than that. It's also a bunch of stupid, deluded people who have an idea of what they want and how to get it, but haven't realized that both of those ideas are wrong and bad. I honestly think it's possible to compile a document on Gamergate, but it'd be a hard job to get material that isn't more infuriating than funny.

I'm just surprised there's a worse version of Epic Rap Battles of History that exists.

I mentioned it on Ballp.it, but ERB is a pretty low hurdle to jump. Its simplicity should be an advantage for this, though; you'd at least learn the basics of rap, and the structure is rudimentary enough that you can plug in your own lines fairly easily.

But for being such massive consumers of media, these guys are utter poo poo at actually watching it. They can't even grasp the basics of the structure, their references are really weak, they can't get the voices of incredibly simple characters right... Their viewing is so passive and unengaged that they can't even learn the simplest things about what they watch.

I wish I could say this was news, but while this is certainly much more blatant, this was something Homestuck taught me. At its height, there were a lot of 'fanworks' made by people who'd never read the comic, but you couldn't tell them apart from work done by actual readers because both groups failed to get any of the characters right.

They've wanted to do a Bitcoin episode for years, I remember stumbling across a post on their Steam group where Lemon talked about the difficulties back in the early days of Bitcoin. There's a lot to cover, it moves very quickly, and at least in the early days Bitcoin sites had a habit of deleting posts after a short period of time. Rob The Parrot is good, but my favorite "ask the Internet" episode is BlurtIt. How do I increase my panic size?

I'm convinced that BlurtIt is the stupidest community they've ever looked at, because it's a failure of logic that leads them to be there in the first place. With the other 'shout a stupid question into the aether' websites, I can at least understand how they get there. Is It Normal and Is It Legal have clear mission statements, enough that I can see you getting there by a Google search. Legal and eHelp also have a semblance of authority in Judge and Rob, so I can see you going 'yeah, I'm gonna get a good answer from this one'. Even Yahoo Answers at least has momentum going for it, so if you're stupid enough to think this is the best way to answer your question, there's enough people there that also think that to guarantee a response.

There is no reason for you to be on BlurtIt. Not only do you have to look harder to get there, but they're worse at answering questions, and have absolutely zero way to even seem like they know what they're talking about. If you are on BlurtIt, you have already failed to answer your question. And quite evidently, judging by the content of their posts, they are not proving this assertion wrong.

In seriousness, a Gamergate episode would run into exactly the same problems as MRA episodes, regardless of whether or not they are. Most of the content wouldn't be 'funny' so much as 'infuriating', so at best you'd be left with a collection of especially strange statements with ethics in video game journalism being the only thing that connects them, and even then only vaguely.
