Can you get Silvercar outside of TX now? Last time I heard/saw about them was reading an in-flight magazine a few years ago. The concept in general seems good, I hate dealing with traditional rental places.

Flying for a quick 1-day trip to DC via DCA. Flying in should be fine, more importantly, since it's DCA, how much earlier do you have to show up? I remember reading somewhere it's a more sensitive airport, so security sucks more.

I usually fly Delta to bank up miles and status, but hopped on Southwest today to fly during eclipse. WN1375, one of the five they designated for viewing.

Mad props -- they squiggled and swizzled the flight route to give a view to both sides of the plane, free glasses on board, everything. Guess they are alright after all!

Award tickets disappeared for a non-stop back from NRT to SEA, so instead of going through PDX or LAX, I decided to do NRT-DTW-SEA, because NRT-DTW is now the new A350 XWB. Excited to check it out – probably not worth the follow-on 5hr flight in a 738/739, but that's my usual flight from DTW-SEA, so I'm not too broken up about it.

movax
Aug 30, 2008

Tell me about those anti-tamper bags for duty frees. Going NRT-DTW-SEA, and I have to recheck / redo everything in DTW. Had the shop here put in the bag, and I took the booze out of boxes so the TSA can do their bullshit on it. Correct plan?

Also, NRT-DTW is a Delta A350 — I’m excited / cautiously optimistic.

movax
Aug 30, 2008

Inquiring with the friendly Delta agent at DTW, he was like "dude, just put it in your bag before you recheck it, we don't re-weigh them." (I thought I'd have to go to a counter and reweigh the already close-to-limit bags, which is why I didn't think about this).

Thanks buddy! :buddy:

Delta A350 was also nice (T ticket), supremely comfortable and didn't feel as dried out / tired afterwards. The 739 ride afterwards in contrast, while a perfectly good airplane, felt more like a normal flight for me, in that I was dehydrated and tired at the end.

Going to Japan at the end of Feb for work close to Haneda. Do I fly SEA-LAX-HND, doing 3 hours in the air to save myself 2 hours in Tokyo public transit doing SEA-NRT? There isn't immediate GUC space on either flight but there are 20+ first class seats open and LAX-HND are good A330 seats and not mediocre 767 seats. I guess if I miss the upgrade then flying through LAX is definitely the worse scenario.

Comedy option fly to DTW and try for an A350 suite upgrade is also on the table.

SEA-NRT was on an older 763ER (Delta right?). Taking the NEX into Shinagawa wasn’t that big of a deal; there’s also a JR line that runs out to it. But that’s time you could be using to get to your hotel and some awesome yakitori.

On return, then you’ve got limousine bus to get back to the airport and you’re hosed if you hit traffic.

I’d do HND. Sad that Delta gave their HND slots to the LAX run; PDX and SEA get NRT. :(

Is that layover not long enough for your company to get you a hotel? That would be easiest by far. If that's not an option I'd burn some points to get a room at a residence inn or something.

It’s personal travel (Scott’s Cheap Flights as the source), so it’s all on me. With how pricey airport storage could be, might not be a bad idea to look into as treating it as a pricey shower + storage combo.

While we’re on the Delta train, I need to get a ticket to Europe for the beginning of May. First, gently caress those guys for listing a basic economy fare and getting me all excited about low cost round trip.

Secondarily, it’s a 70K mile ticket if I use points. There’s no real advantage to just sitting on SkyMiles, so I shouldn’t feel bad about spending, right?

I don't know where your O&D are but current Euro fare sales are decently cheap if you are staying a weekend. Delta does not offer E on long-haul to my knowledge although that could be slightly out-of-date.

I'm usually in favor of spending skylira when you're getting about 1.3 to the dollar as a break point.

Origin is SEA, destination can effectively be anywhere in EU, AMS or CDG are nice from Delta. $634 was the price for basic economy, but I don’t want a lovely seat for a trans-Atlantic. I’ll look up the mileage and see what it comes out too for the miles...

PP has been getting shittier as a benefit for CSR
holders because I think more and more lounges are telling PP to get hosed.

When I’m flying Delta though, the Platinum dropping lounge access to $30 is worth it IMO, because that’s the minimum you’ll spend with tip anywhere at a sit-down in the airport.

That said, I think both cards are getting outclassed by competitors / other cards in their own product line and are losing their value considering the annual fee. Maybe I’ll try retention line and see if I can get the fee waived.

Tracking prices for SEA-DTW RT 7/5 to 7/12, KAYAK shows that it dips occasionally during the week; this close to the travel dates, should I pull the trigger now or wait another day to grab it Tuesday/Wednesday? I probably should have bought these last week.

Bonus question: Is there a hidden trick / way to try and get SEA-DTW for this weekend for a sane price or is it "last seats available will go for an insane amount?". I'm idly curious if going to the airport day of would result in anything special.

At least my frequent airports (SEA, DTW) are consistent though at SEA...automated bins, why, and the pre-check only checkpoint being as far as possible from Delta gates.
